Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Scott Charles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Scott, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Well to be honest, I don’t know how much earlier I could have started. I’ve been singing in choirs and by myself my entire life, I got into the lifestyle of being a musician and being in a band as I became a teenager. If I could go back, I would probably spend more time on my own musical endeavors and spend more time learning musical theory and write more music back then so I would have more of a catalog now. But even then, I don’t really regret anything musically I’ve done, because I have gained wisdom from every situation leading to where I am now.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well from a booking standpoint, I started with my dad when I was a teenager. He worked at a radio station and would book shows with his industry friends on the side, mostly off dates of tours passing through, offering promotion through his station as well to sweeten the deal. So I got to see how to talk to artists and the business entities attached to them in real time and how they operated, and it really opened my eyes to the communications aspect of Marketing a show. So that became my primary focus when I ventured onto my own and started doing my own shows and then eventually DynaDuo with Will Pompey.
We work consistently to make sure the planning aspect of the show is transparent with our acts, mostly local and regional bands. And we give the up and coming artists tools to market themselves in the process for the future to help them grow. Some have a better idea of what they are doing than others, and that’s okay. It’s important to us that we give everyone that equal opportunity to do something great with the platform they are given.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
For bands specifically, support on social media through a Follow, a Like, a Share, a Comment on a post, etc. All forms of engagement in that regard are 100% free, and it benefits the artist by using the algorithm to their advantage through increasing engagement, it will increase the likelihood that more people will see it.
If you want to go a step further with artists you want to support, the best way to support them financially is by buying merchandise directly from the band itself, eliminating the middleman with their hand in the pot. Go to the shows, buy tickets directly from said artist, buy their shirts and records, do anything you can to work with the artist directly.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Definitely being able to transcribe multi-sided emotions into art that will then create an emotional response from someone else. Now you have to ask yourself, “Why is that important?” Since all humans are different, we process things uniquely. Which means the same emotion could be interpreted differently based on life experience. So if my experiences living in this piece of art can make people understand something about themselves or the world around them with a little more clarity, I’ve done my job as an artist.
