We were lucky to catch up with Ross Stockdale recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ross, thanks for joining us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
When I started the business bright-eyed and bushy-tailed I thought fathering a newborn and recently exiting a business partnership would be the toughest challenges to navigate.
What I didn’t anticipate was tearing my ACL and being unable to walk. Couple that with losing my Godmother, Grandmother, and Mother in the span of 2 months and my first quarter of business couldn’t have looked more different than what I anticipated.
Ross, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been in marketing for 10+ years and been self employed for the last 5.
My experience ranges from marketing in house and agency side, real estate, private equity, and most recently owning a Fractional Chief Marketing Officer business.
I help small business owners solve leadership and strategy in marketing. What differentiates me is my experience and approach to growing small businesses, both fast and lean.
I’m most proud of my long term relationships and helping my clients obtain their dream of financial freedom.
Have you ever had to pivot?
The moment I knew I needed to exit private equity and figure something out on my own was when my child was born.
I was taking work emails and meetings in the delivery room. Both my wife and the nursing staff were getting heated. I realized then I couldn’t have two simultaneous top priorities.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I exited a business partnership and reallocated most of the funds into the runway for my own solopreneur journey.
