We recently connected with Isaiah Volk and have shared our conversation below.
Isaiah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Recently, I have embarked on a journey I have always wanted to be a part of. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be in a professional touring band. Due to other commitments as a tennis player through my early and late teens into college, I have never had a great opportunity to start a process like this. I have tried while playing college tennis, but it never really had a chance. As my college tennis career ended, I wanted to start a new journey. I decided I wanted to get my pilot’s license and become a professional pilot. As this was a massive risk financially, I had a goal and I wanted to achieve that goal. In August of 2023, I officially became a rated pilot.
It wasn’t until late 2022, as I was pursuing becoming a pilot, I met a girl named Madie Renner, a classically trained singer/songwriter. The second I listened to her early music work, a bell went off in my head and I knew that this could be the first chance to start a legitimate band and achieve my lifelong dream to be a touring drummer in my own creation. Over the past two years, to create this band, it has taken so much hard work to make the pieces fall into the right place, including finding the best producers, marketers as well as even the right equipment to get this started. Only until March of this year, we released our first song called “Golden State”. You’d think that this would be the hardest thing we could do as a band, but in fact it was the easiest. We’ve spent days researching the best way to make our dreams come true, with a lot of early let downs, including trial and error, we are slowly gaining traction as a professional band. We have spent over 50 thousand dollars of our own money so far, believing we could do this, and we now have that chance.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am the drummer in the band Out in Front. We created this project officially in March of 2024, although have been working on getting this band off the ground since May of 2023. My parents have been working in the music industry since before I was born. I was always immersed in the business and live music side of the industry. I have been lucky enough to see and experience the ins and outs of how it all works and I am happy I can bring some of my knowledge into our band’s up and coming business. I think I am most proud of how far we’ve already come in such a short time. I am the type to always want more and more, but sometimes I need to ground myself and realize our accomplishments. I want our fans and followers to know how hard we are working to make a dream a realityfor ourselves, so hopefully we can make a difference for someone in the future. As a whole, we are as real as it gets in our we present our story to the world, and we want to show that to everyone who gives our music/brand a chance.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I was 18, I was diagnosed with a tumor located in my head next to my brain. I was lucky to see a world in which I have never experienced before. I was able to be given a second chance on life. Within that experience, I have learned that with one life, why not make any of your dreams a reality. I don’t know of another way to succeed. I can’t rely on luck and hope for someone to hand me an opportunity, I will need to take it on my own. I try to bring that into our band, and as much as I know it’s all about fun at the end of the day, achieving that dream will make it all worthwhile to us.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think being a part of a band as a drummer is very similar these days as it is as a pilot and tennis player. We do not need to rely on someone else to do the job for us. We are self sufficient as a group and it’s up to us to make it happen. As a trio, we all thrive on creating opportunities and that’s why we mesh so well. We are so excited to embark on this journey, seeing the rewards of all the hard work that we’ve done.
