We recently connected with Christina Sacco Shea and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, thanks for joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents taught me to have a voice at a very young age. They always made me believe I could do ANYTHING. A defining moment was Take Your Daughter to Work Day when I was in 6th grade. My dad was the CEO of a healthcare system, we were in an Executive committee meeting listening to ideas and discussions. As I whispered to my Dad that I disagreed with one particular idea, he urged me to speak up and share my thoughts with everyone. I remember being completely overwhelmed. After all, how could a sixth grader like me possibly contribute anything worthwhile to this group of accomplished professionals, most of whom were men. But with my Dad’s encouragement, I mustered the courage to share my opinion. To my surprise, they listened intently and took my feedback into consideration. This experience has stuck with me ever since, and it’s one of the reasons why I’ve always believed in myself and have never been afraid to speak my mind.

Christina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At 22 years old, a fresh college graduate I entered the workforce a little naive as to what I wanted to do in my career. My parents hired me a career coach (which coincidentally was from my now husband’s family’s company). After a few months with that coach, she suggested I would make an excellent recruiter.
Since 2005, I’ve enjoyed being a part of the recruiting industry. Helping people is extremely rewarding to me! My focus when I started Aligned Solutions was to provide clear transparency and honesty in the corporate recruiting world, where notable recruiters can have a bad reputation. We focus on understanding our clients culture and needs to best find them top talent. Making clients and candidates happy is still the best feeling in the world!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I bootstrapped my business. Jesse Itzler has a great reasoning behind this and I feel the exact same. I don’t have investors, I put some capital in the business to start it up and then through my own hard work over a few years, earned all the money to hire a team and grow the business. I wouldn’t have changed a single thing.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Our best strategy from growth has been focusing on our core values of providing high quality recruitment to our clients. In doing so, our clients regularly refer us to their colleagues and network. We’re very grateful for their partnership and the partnership of our personal friends who entrusted us with their most valued business asset- their people.
