Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Demyra B. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Demyra , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I started doing makeup in middle school, and soon graduated to raiding my mom’s makeup bag. I researched makeup gurus on YouTube and started out with drugstore makeup. Although I didn’t have the funds to buy the best products, I made the most of what I had and created beautiful looks. I think the most essential skill is being consistent in whatever you want to achieve. Although I’ve put down makeup at times due to lack of funds, resources, and peer pressure, with what I know now, I would have tried to invest more in myself and be more confident in my makeup skills.

Demyra , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Sabriya Stanley, but you can call me Demyra B. I am from the South, Macon, Georgia. The heart of Georgia. I’m your favorite Scorpio who loves to beat her face. I love making content about beauty products and recording makeup looks. I got the inspiration to do makeup from Bratz. My love for those dolls was the happiest times in my childhood. The way they have a passion for fashion, it rooted my passion for makeup. If you have ever seen the show and movies, you know what I mean. In my hometown I felt I was one of the other girls who enjoyed doing makeup. Where I’m from, there isn’t a lot of inspiration for beauty. I’m a girl’s girl and I want to see everybody win. That gave me the leap to go for it, and with the support of my family and friends I felt confident to start recording. I had an iPhone 5s and I researched iPhone camera settings and things to get set up. I was eager to start, and I would compare my set up to the YouTubers and want a nice Sony camera. It takes more of mental energy to start this journey; I get anxious and contemplate on creating content because I’m so passion about it. I questioned myself so many times in the process and compared myself to others who were in the industry already. I knew how to be my authentic self but starting out my audience is basically the people who know me locally on social media. So, I barely received feedback. It’s kind of hard to come up where I’m from, it’s the main reason I left Georgia. I moved to Denver, CO in the summer of 2022 and I never looked back. I have had more opportunities, feedback, and coverage. In my journey I learned to follow me and what I want, it leads me to so much greater. I’m working with the BzzAgent currently doing campaigns and it’s been the greatest experience so far. I know one day YouTube will find its way back to the beauty community and I want to be a part of that. I started doing graphic designing to invest more into me. It gives me a creative boost making designs such as thumbnails, flyers, invitations, intros and so much more. I’m proud of taking the step years ago to start, even when I didn’t have all the resources or the best resources. My mom always said, “you have to work for what you want; nothing comes free handed” and that’s been predominate for me in my adult years. Sometimes when you have nothing, you must make that out of something.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I would have to say that the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is your work being discovered by other creators and building that community. We all know it takes a village, and I feel I have a sturdy one. My friend Soreena, who is a lifestyle content creator, spoke of me at this great opportunity. Supporting one another is how we succeed, and I love making friends, especially friends with whom I can collaborate. I also love to see my work inspiring others to start practicing their makeup or to start recording their journey of makeup. That is truly the goal—to inspire others to do what makes them happy, without anyone’s approval. Life is too short.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I understand that not everyone would appreciate my content, and in all honesty, it is not intended for everyone. Not everyone wants a lot of product on their face or wants to spend money on a product that they will probably never use again. I had an epiphany that I wanted to be something bigger, and I have a talent that no one can take away from me. God blessed me with this gift, and I am using it to hopefully inspire others that they can achieve greatness. We do not have to be confined to a space that does not serve us.
