We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marcie Boriskie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marcie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know
I would definitely join a team to start! Real estate is very costly and without support from an established team you do not get very far your first year in real estate.

Marcie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Marcie and I am a realtor on The Adam Olsen Team. I started my career in 2015. I worked as an orthodontic assistant for 20 years prior to real estate. After I sold my home it got me thinking that this is what I wanted to do with my life. I want to help people find their forever homes and live the American Dream. My realtor who sold my home inspired me to get my license. I did just that then started working for her brokerage. The first year was tough as an independent agent. The fees, marketing and paying for leads are very costly. I went back into dental and worked real state part-time after the 1st year. Then started following The Adam Olsen Team and soon realized that is where I want to be! I was hired on as a buyers agent, then a position came up as transaction coordinator. I applied and started working for the team and was a fulltime agent. I then transitioned into the sales manager. I learned so much from agents and our team lead Adam. I recently took the plunge and I am a fulltime time agent only now! I have dedicated my career to being the best I can be and making myself available to my clients. I think what sets me apart is my ability to keep calm during the transaction process which in the long run helps my clients stay calm and stress-free during the process. My clients trust me and that is the biggest compliment I can get!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advise would be Keep people held accountable!! When I managed our real estate team it was a lot of work and long hours. You definitely have to learn time management and how to communicate with people. You need to be able to talk with team members on the same level as you, Don’t belittle anyone or make them feel beneath you but at the same time you can not let anyone run over you either. Respect goes a long ways!!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media and word of mouth! Team leads! Keeping in touch with past clients.
