Melissa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
At SkyHigh Aerial Fitness Studio our mission is to provide a dynamic aerial and fitness experience where youth and adults discover the joy of movement, building confidence, strength, coordination, mobility, and balance in a fun and supportive environment. We empower young athletes to enhance their sports performance as well as individuals new to fitness, while fostering a community that encourages parents and adults to prioritize their own health and well-being, leading by example for future generations. Throughout my journey in the fitness industry I learned that helping others build confidence in their abilities is one of the most effective ways to help them to better themselves physically and mentally. I also learned as a mother the importance of leading by example and reinforcing positive behavior surrounding health and physical activity.

Melissa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What makes me stand out is my personal journey, a journey marked by adversity, self-discovery, and a deep-rooted passion for helping others. Since I was young, I’ve always had this innate drive to make a difference. But it wasn’t until I faced one of the toughest challenges of my life that I truly began to discover my purpose. At the age of 18 I battled a massive brain tumor that forever changed me. Imagine undergoing a 30-hour surgery and then having to learn how to walk and do everyday tasks all over again. It was a journey of resilience and growth, one that took years to rebuild both my body and my confidence.
Pilates became my saving grace during this time, helping me regain strength, coordination, and a newfound appreciation for my body’s abilities. That experience ignited a passion within me for health and wellness that still burns brightly today. It hasn’t been an easy road. But looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I have also developed an appreciation for the ability of movement and the capability for what the body could do. And what’s even more rewarding is being able to share my story and expertise with others, guiding them on their own journeys towards self-improvement. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of knowing you’ve made a positive impact in someone else’s life. It’s the heart and soul of being a business owner.
Fast forward to today, being a mom and wanting to teach my kids that fitness shouldn’t be viewed as something that they have to do. It should be viewed as something they get to do and in such a positive way that they wouldn’t want to live more than a day without it. Discovering fun new ways to workout and challenge the body without making it a task. SkyHigh Aerial Fitness Studio is the perfect way for kids to explore fitness in a fun way that promotes strength, coordination, flexibility and helps to enhance overall physical performance. In addition, it allows parents the opportunity to get a workout in while their child is, providing opportunity to focus on health and leading by example for their children. It really is the best for all generations and I’m so glad I get to be a part of it.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
While I have been in the fitness industry for 20 year, I am new to owning a brick and mortar. It has honestly been a scary, putting so much risk with so many unknowns on the line. I am fortunate to have such a supportive community helping me grow. I honestly believe that building genuine relationships and being true to my brand has helped my business thrive.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience by being true to my brand and myself. Building an audience on social media is like hosting a party where everyone feels welcomed and excited to join. I started by defining my brand’s unique voice. I love witty humor, combined with helpful tips/guide, and inspiring others by sharing relatable experiences? This voice was my signature, that helped me to create content that was authentic and engaging. I frequently shared stories, behind-the-scenes moments, and genuine experiences that could resonate with my audience. Interacting with my followers like friends, responding to their comments, asking questions, and showing appreciation for their support helped to humanize my brand. As you are trying to grow your social media audience it’s important to remember, people connect with people, not just products or services. So stay true to who you are, and your audience will naturally grow as they see the real, relatable person behind the brand.
