We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sobrina Taylor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sobrina below.
Sobrina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project to date has been assisting Guitarist Garry Percell promote his latest single, “Going In Circles.”
I learned a year ago about Garry’s intent to secure the phenomenal R&B Singer Tony Terry (known for hits like “With You”…”Everlasting Love”… and “Lovey Dovey.” I knew it would be a special song, and I wanted to help navigate the social aspect.
Being that Percell originated from the smooth jazz space, I helped with the procurement of R&B radio promotions, curated content for posting on social media, arranged many of his interviews, including secured an amazing writer for a feature story in a popular magazine. I have been the consultant for the long-term growth of the single which now sits at #9 on The Official Indie R&B Chart!!!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am from Arkansas. I grew up in a small twin-city surrounded by relatives of both parents. Having roots in church, I began singing in the youth choir and was later appointed as director. In high school, I learned to read/perform music, and was chosen to be a part of the elite group, The Madrigals. My family relocated to Mississippi where I secured a job as a radio announcer. I also joined a local band and began opening for icons such as Bobby Bland, Atlantic Starr, and Chaka Khan.
Eventually, opportunity presented itself to pursue a record deal so I resigned from the radio station on a dime and flew to New York to meet Gene Griffin, godfather to Teddy Riley of the New Jack Swing group GUY! After being told I’d work with Bernard Belle (Regina Belle’s brother), I placed many outgoing calls to Griffin to inquire about contracts, but the delay would be indefinite. There would be no production deal to be distributed by MCA. Gene Griffin passed away. Not long after the unfortunate series of events that derailed what might have been a great deal, I was introduced to another producer who had direct access to an A&R Sony Exec downtown New York. We presented the label exec with a demo, only to be told he hated the song but loved my voice. I was told he wanted music similar to CeCe Penniston. I suppose my face showed total disapproval because the rep told us that if I did not agree with the direction of the song, there would be no deal. I left the Sony Offices in tears!!!! That would be the 2nd failed deal on the books. I was taken directly to the airport. While I was kicking myself for not thinking things through, a man boarded and sat next to me. Seeing my tears, he asked why I was upset. After learning what happened, he asked for a demo, but honestly shared that he could not make any promises except that he would listen. I never heard from him, or so I thought!! My Mom, who didn’t want me in the business, admitted years later there had been a call from someone at a record label shortly after I had returned home from New York. She had taken the message in my absence but I never received it!!
I dropped the dream chasing, and entered school where I studied Marketing, and later Communications and Philosophy.
I spent 7 years working in retail credit for a luxury brand which ended one year prior to COVID. However, Unsigned Artist Reveal Worldwide was created while I worked in retail.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2007, I met an amazing artist and agreed to become a part of the team to bring awareness to his music. I knocked on every door and left no stone unturned. I even organized a CD release party hosted by International Guitarist Nick Colione, who has since passed away. The event boasted 300 guests that became standing room only!
However, due to quite a few challenges during the planning and execution of the event, I believe it would be fitting to note that he decided to relocate, leaving me with a remnant of challenges. However, I continued to press forward. In my determination to produce positive results out of a major fallout, I stumbled upon Carol Archer, editor of Radio & Records, at that time, who discovered the artist’s music via my introduction. She suggested that I have a conversation with Allen Kepler who so graciously chatted with me about the industry, as it related to radio. Later, Ms. Archer shared her excitement about how she wanted to help us. There was access to opportunities granted that only GOD could have made available for my client. However the artist discouraged my engagement with anyone else because he would be leaving the area, in turn breaching our management contract.
Four years later, the same artist sought my assistance, once more, but it wasn’t sustainable. I was torn and tired which is when I stepped away from the music industry and moved back to Mississippi.
Over time, I began meditating to seek peace and direction. I was led to create and develop Unsigned Artist Reveal Worldwide for artists who would be passionate as well as consistent in their music journey. We have been in operation since 2018.
