We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shayna OCallaghan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shayna, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I think everyone is so used to being kept in this cooking cutter box of what “industry standard” is. Iv been breaking the norm in my area for a couple of years now. Why be boring when you can be creative?

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Iv been into photography for about 11ish years now.
I accidently fell into it. My friend at the time was in a photography class in high school. She needed a model, which by no means am I a model, just wanted to help a friend. She taught me how to edit and photo manipulation in Photoshop and she showed me how to use her camera. It all really started from there.
Once I graduated high school, i saved up my graduation money and bought my first camera. Nikon D3200. Man, I took that thing everywhere. Concerts, parks, downtown detroit,
I ended up going to technical school twice. Graphic Design & Digital Media. Learning the ins and outs of photo, video, graphics, social medial, branding, etc.
By January of 2020, I finally started getting serious with photography. I officially got my LLC and did a whole social media rebrand for myself.
Only a year later I really felt like I started to dive in my creative brain. Creative concept art was my calling. It’s an added bonus if it’s messy and gory.
Calla Capture is a creative, Experimental with different styles & techniques. Being different is apart of the niche.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly, it’s all instagram.
Most people who’ve booked me is someone that randomly followed me or knew me from a fashion show.

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Yes!
With a large background in digital media, I create a lot of art.
I sell on various stock photo sites of images, videos and graphics.
