Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bianca Green. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Bianca, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve had the pleasure to work on is currently underway, “Beads, Braids & Barrettes.” It is a short documentary that focuses on Black hairstyles and accessories from girlhood to adulthood and its impact on self-image, confidence, and identity as we maneuver through the world of different careers and professions. It reflects and acknowledges the power in that beauty, but also question why.

Bianca, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a writer and filmmaker from Miami, FL with a Jamaican background, that grew up watching and participating in various forms of performing arts. It began with ballet as a child then improv onto theatre and finally film.
My first real gig in the film industry began when I moved to Atlanta in 2021. I started as a set decorator then COVID PA then set PA then cast assistant. It all happened pretty quickly, so that let me know I was exactly where I was supposed to be and took that as a sign of confirmation. Later, I created my own production company, Her Green Furnace.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Her Green Furnace was founded on the principles that the fires we go through in life help us create the art we see every day. The stories we have that connect us and the characters we become from facing universal challenges in life are results of the fire.
We intend to share stories, reveal the depths of our humanity, and do it with grace and taste. As we own our truths and kindle the fires within our human experience, we deepen our connection, understanding, and community across the world.
Our goal is to celebrate, love, hate, enjoy, hurt, and welcome all of the human responses to our reality through the art of imagination.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Attention. It is the cheapest yet most invaluable resource. Whatever has your attention can also have your pockets. In film, we need both. But for a starting point, the easiest and most beneficial support society can give is their attention to our films and projects.
