We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ruffin Consulting Services a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ruffin Consulting Services, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One deeply underappreciated facet of being a service provider is the kind of crazy stuff that happens from time to time. It could be anything from a disgruntled client attacking an employee or waking up to find out a celebrity gave you a shoutout on TikTok – the sudden, unexpected hits (both positive and negative) make the profession both exhilarating and exhausting. Can you share one of your craziest stories?

It all began at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. I was a student majoring in Finance and eager to graduate and work at one of The Big 4 firms. After graduating and throughout my career, I never could land a position at any of the top consulting firms. This did not discourage me as a matter of fact I began to take on a consulting role in my personal and professional life. I applied tools, knowledge and analytical skills in seeking to understand the root cause of problems, reporting my findings along with solutions and overall applying a best practices approach in my profession. Having a mom that was a logistician, quality assurance and standard operating procedures (SOP) expert in the United States Army, it is a no brainer that consulting would be a top interest after undergrad.

April 11, 2022 I received a Google Alert notification of Ruffin Consulting Services being mentioned in the news. I opened the notification to read “Global Insurance Consulting Services Market Outlook 2026: Top Companies, Trends, Growth Factors Details by Region, Types and Applications.” My first response was “hmmm this looks interesting.” I quickly clicked on the link and as I read, I am looking for Ruffin Consulting Services. Not finding it quick enough, I decided to ctrl+F to find Ruffin Consulting Services. And there it was “The industry players with the likes of KPMG, EY, Deloitte, McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group….RUFFIN CONSULTING SERVICES are extensively involved in the competitive landscape of the Insurance Consulting Services market.”

I was shocked, thankful, and many other emotions to see my business name highlighted in the competitive landscape of companies I once expressed interest in working with at some point in my career. This moment to me represented what hard work, dedication, and purpose driven work can do if you stay focused on the impact and the people with your natural skills and education.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Ebony Ruffin’s passion for financial consulting developed as she traveled the world as the daughter of an active-duty military parent in the U.S. Army. Through her experience both domestic and abroad, she learned the value of saving, investing and insurance protection. Ebony pursued her passion for finance through her studies at Auburn University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance and a Master of Business Administration in International Business from Mercer University.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Let’s be clear, life insurance is not the most attractive and popular topic but I knew I was the vessel to change the narrative on how life insurance is viewed and applied in financial planning. My goal has always been (1) seek to understand the life insurance gap and (2) educate first to help with understanding what is life insurance, why is life insurance essential and how to purchase life insurance. Since consulting has always been a dream of mine, I wanted to use my skills to focus on life insurance consulting.

After passing the life insurance exam and completing a series of training, I fully immersed myself into life insurance. I created a website, Instagram, FaceBook and LinkedIn accounts in the name of Ruffin Consulting Services and began to share knowledge and tips on life insurance. I quickly became known as the Queen of Life Insurance. Because my focus was education first, my reputation grew and other brands began to take an interest in the information I was sharing and asked to feature me on various podcasts, blogs, book launches, e-courses and more. I remain consistent, professional and dedicated to all things life insurance. As a result, Ruffin Consulting Services became synonymous with life insurance, trust, professionalism, confidential consultations and great to work with.
