We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shari Rowe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shari below.
Shari, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Writing and releasing “The Heavy” will always stand out for me. I co-wrote the song with Mark Chandler and Warren Garrett, and it continues to strike a chord with listeners. During the write, we talked about how important it is, as entertainers, to have purpose; to leave people with something that goes beyond the show. For me, this song represents every person who has shared their story with me, every cause that I represent, and every friend or family member who has faced a struggle. We wrote “The Heavy” to inspire. We each need to “be the light” for one another.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in Arizona, and though we lived in the city, I spent my weekends with my older brother who had a small farm. Horseback riding and camping were beautiful escapes for me growing up, and where I felt most like myself. I’ve been singing since I can remember, putting on shows for the family in the living room with my sisters and making up songs for just about anything! The power of music has always been evident to me. At each stage of life, there was a soundtrack playing. My dad loved classic country. My brother loved classic rock. I loved all of it, especially harmony.
It was in junior high choir. Our director asked us to hold a note as she walked passed each of us to listen. She stopped in front of me and said, “You have a great tone”. After class, she and the other director asked if I would perform a solo for the spring concert. It was an Italian opera piece. They worked with me and I did it! From there, I would continue to be inspired by them, by my sisters, nature, by everything it seemed. Even through my darkest times growing up, music was a constant.
My sisters and I started singing together in church, and were soon asked to travel to perform at other churches around the country. We met a producer, and then signed to Q/Atlantic Records as a CCM trio. Writing and performing those songs solidified my belief in the power of music and how it enabled me to connect with people. I had been impacted my whole life by it, and now I was learning how to build that relationship with audiences.
Many people commented that our trio had a very country sound. Once the chapter with my sisters ended, I continued on as a country music artist, building a community in Nashville. I’ve learned so much from some of the most talented people in this industry, and have had the opportunity to share the stage with country music legends and artists on the rise. I’ve written and released music that has enabled me to share my heart and my life with people, and I feel very blessed as I continue on, with new music coming out in the months ahead.
I recently signed a management deal with Dennis Petty (DDP Worldwide). With a great band and show, new music, and a hard working team behind me, I’m grateful and excited for the future!
My husband, a very talented musician and bass player, and I met when I was still a teenager. Our plan was to start a band, and now here we are! We’ve had the privilege of playing shows together across the US and abroad. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal has always been to connect with people, whether that has been in the church, pointing congregations away from myself, or in the spotlight sharing my heart. We are all way more the same than we are different. Through the ups, the downs, and everything in between, we want to be heard, understood and supported. I want to help people feel that- to relate and to be able find themselves in the songs.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Independent artistry has its challenges, and community support makes all the difference. Attend local shows, follow and interact on social media, buy merchandise, and share the artist’s work online. Know that we’ve put our heart, money and energy into wanting to connect with you in a meaningful way, and when you find that connection, let us know!
