We were lucky to catch up with LaKeisha LaGuins recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi LaKeisha, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later

I started Kei LaGuins Productions December 1st, 2014, Kei LaGuins MusiQ started August 8th, 2018, and I started Kei Wine and Spirits July 31st, 2023. My most recent Business is Making A Dream Come True Foundation and it was established March 27th, 2023 along with the website makingadreamcometruefoundation.org

Looking back I don’t necessarily wish I started sooner but I wish that I had advertised it more and did more with it during that time; because at that time I was working long hours and just focused on the job and making sure my family was straight. Now that my kids are older I can focus on the business more. My movie When A Woman Loves A Man, 4 Hours, and The Lyricist are my projects that I’ve written and produced. When A Woman Loves A Man is on Amazon Prime and Tubi Tv. 4 hours won best action film and was shown on Kei tv
The Lyricist was accepted in Vegas and was screened in LA and is getting ready to be screened in Atlanta

LaKeisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is LaKeisha LaGuins aka Kei I’m a screenwriter, film producer, casting director from Athens, Georgia. I’ve been curious about writing since I was a young child; I remember when I use to carry my bookbag around and my grandmother, my uncle, and aunt whose deceased now would always tell me I was going to be successful and I was going to be a writer. I know there looking over me and are proud of my accomplishments. I would always write songs on napkins and any note pad I could find; I still remember how my uncle would have me reciting poetry and I can say that played a role in some of my engagements up to today. My mom and my two sisters are my biggest supporters.

I just finished a romance book that will be out this year, so be looking out for “Secrets”.

I have my wine brand cognac moscato and peach sparkling white wine and I’m so proud of all my accomplishments

What sets me apart from others is that I try to help others establish themselves in the business especially when others overlook them; I believe in giving anyone a chance no matter their circumstances because everyone deserves a chance in accomplishing things that truly love doing; when it comes to me I don’t speak much on it or try to do too much. I just let my work speak for itself.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

When I started I would save up to get things together. I’ve never asked for a go fund me or any hand out I’ve always funded my own films and helped produced other films as well by working full time and shooting on the weekends.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

I like to work with all types of clients whether your new in the industry and in the process I try to help mold and shape you whether your seasoned in the industry.
