We recently connected with King Jawz and have shared our conversation below.
King, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
So many times people misjudge a artist and what he/she presents. For most it’s a outlet from the troubles and disadvantages given to them from everyday life. If not for music, art, or fashion, most artists life would be in shambles. You have to take time to understand a real artists. Not these “rappers” now and days. Artists paint pictures. Rappers just rap. It’s a big difference.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Music has brought me and taken me away from a lot of different places and situations in life. I started taking music seriously after I got into a little trouble and it was my way to alter my thought process. I’ve been one of the finalists for Making the Band a while back. I’ve had a deal that didn’t pan out after a few things didn’t go the way I expected. Besides winning a few freestyle competitions and performing in front of major crowds, it’s still a lot missing from my career that I plan to achieve. During that time, I also became CFO of Basik Art. A custom paint line created by Gerren Chenier. You need anything painted on clothing, walls, or canvases…whatever really, I have the answer for you. Basik Art has been on everyone from Slim Thug to Chris Brown. Besides being a father and creating a respectable life for myself, Basik Art is for sure one of my biggest accomplishments.
One of the few real artists left in the world with a few younger artists that are ready for whatever the music world has for them, if you haven’t heard us, you will soon. Kingjawz won’t stop until that happens.
Have you ever had to pivot?
The birth of my son/death of my mother changed my life from so many different parameters. My mother told me she wanted a child before she left the earth and three months after my son was born, she left. I’ve seen God work in so many ways. This happening showed me how he does his work. From going through depression and not knowing it to getting sick and almost leaving this earth myself, it was the hardest and most uplifting moments in my life.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My mother got into a wreck with a 18 wheeler my senior year of high school where she initially passed away. She was brought back to life by the grace of God, but I was forced to get a job on top of making basketball practice everyday. I averaged 4-5 hours sleep every night. It wasn’t a choice, it was something I had to do for my family. Made me the person I am today and I wouldn’t ask for it to happen no differently. Not what happened to my mother but what happened to my pride and resilience.
