We were lucky to catch up with Tialyn John recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tialyn , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
For a significant part of my life, I believed that success was about how much I could manage, how big I could build. I really embraced being “superwoman” from work to mom to home life. The more I could handle, the more successful I felt. Not to mention a big part of society celebrates a woman who can “do it all”.
However, as time went on, I faced a lot of burnout. I missed out on being fully present with my kids, and I lost who I was because I was everything for everyone but me.
I went through a really hard personal season in my life a few years ago, and that altered my mindset. I finally realized that work should be a tool to create a life we love, not become our lives.
I spent the last few years really working on my mindset, values, and boundaries around work so that I could actually live a life I love. While I was doing this, I had such a heightened awareness that I was not the only mompreneur out there who was juggling it all at the expense of sacrificing what truly mattered most.
My mission is to empower mompreneurs to be the best version of themselves while building and running a successful business. I help moms align their professional endeavors with their personal values and aspirations, fostering a balance that allows them to be fully present in all aspects of their lives.
I love seeing women find value in who they are and go from being overworked and overwhelmed to thriving with less stress so they have more time and energy for what truly matters. This mission is meaningful to me because it reflects my journey and my desire to help other women find the same sense of balance and fulfillment.
By sharing this mission, I hope to inspire and empower others to redefine success. My mission isn’t just a statement; it’s a heartfelt commitment to making a difference in how we, as working moms, approach work and life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For the last 8 years, I have owned my own photography/videography business. I fell into the Food Photography and Videography niche and met many amazing women who had never had their own businesses.
I had 12 years of coaching experience (from working in leadership for some well-known retail companies), so I naturally started using those skills to help equip and empower these incredible women. After 3 years of coaching women in the photography industry to help them grow their businesses, I finally launched my coaching business this past January, and I work with entrepreneurs from all types of industries.
I currently coach women weekly in a one-on-one Zoom call. During these calls, we celebrate their success and work through any obstacles they have. The women who work with me often have some limiting beliefs (self-doubt) that we work through, as a strong mindset is critical for business success.
My clients absolutely love that I can help them pinpoint opportunities within their business and help them create simple strategies to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. When we work together, I love ensuring that they walk away from the call feeling empowered to take action.
I am always so proud of what my clients accomplish; the accountability from meeting together is a huge game changer for them to make major progress in their business without burning out. I am a firm believer that my clients need to grow their businesses while loving the life they live. Seeing their transformation truly is the biggest blessing behind what I do.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
In-person networking, cross-partnerships, and connecting live on social platforms have been huge!
As a coach, it is important that clients trust you. A big part of that is getting to know me and seeing I truly have their best interest in mind. I am not the kind of person who sells someone something they do not need. Unfortunately, I see that a lot when entrepreneurs are more concerned about making the sale vs. focusing on the value and benefit of the person using their services (or buying their product).
If you are a business owner, focus on truly loving and serving your audience well and you will start to see clients and customers loving your offerings.
Networking is a great way to grow your clientele. I also love cross-partnerships with other entrepreneurs who have a similar audience base. Again, look to serve first, and you can create some very fruitful partnerships.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I am very honest and transparent (in a loving way). I do not shame entrepreneurs, but I do help them pivot to where they need to go while feeling empowered to do so.
I welcome women who feel like a hot mess, and at the same time, I am very transparent that building a business is not all unicorns and butterflies.
Overall, my reputation is built on meeting entrepreneurs right where they are and helping them get to where they want to go.
