Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tavion Freeman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tavion, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’ve been making music since I was in the 5th grade, starting with cute poems about the girl I had a crush on. I was always able to express my feelings and emotions through writing, even if it was just an essay for class. As I got older I was able to tie in my real life experiences to my music and connect more with other people in that way. Recently I put out a project named “Testimony Music” telling my testimony. I have been through alot, but God has been there with me every step of the way and is the reason i’ve been able to push through. This project really does speak to who I am and who i’ve become. No other body of work that I have put out has gotten so much positive reviews as this, and I believe it’s because of the realness, and how relatable it is to even those who may not have the same religious beliefs. In a way, it took me 25 years to put this project together. Everything i’ve been through shaped how I put it together.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve always been a writer, but I started producing and engineering for other artists around 2019 when I moved from my home town (Fort Worth, Tx) to (Houston, Tx) where I’m currently located. I wanted to give other artists an opportunity that I was never given. I had to learn how to do everything myself because no one wanted to help out the kid that was making “positive” music. It just wasn’t cool for a really long time. I was able to help alot of artists though, showing them anything and everything I was learning along my journey. I pay alot of attention to the artists I work with and try to make the recording proccess as efficient as possible so we can capture exactly the emotion they are going for matched with the production. Along the way I met Omb Bloodbath and others at Bonehouse Records studio in 3rd ward. Bloodbath gave me a big opportunity to be her personal engineer while also heavily supporting my goals in being a producer and artist as well in 2020 when she signed a deal with interscope. That gave me a big push and we put out records such as, “For Me”, “Don’t Do It”. I am a very personable enegineer/producer, And me being an artist helps me understand what my clients are dealing with when they get into the studio. I relate to them well and can help them overthink less and be more efficient. They usually trust me to just do what I do, i’m definitely not much of a talker.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In the beginning of my journey I worked sun up to sun down every day, I hardly left the studio just wanting to learn everything I could and out work any and every one possible. I was focused. Although it put me ahead of my peers at the time, I had to learn that working smarter would always be the better option and not just working hard. Over time I made adjustments and now I know how to schedule time for work and time to rest. Rest is very important so you don’t burn yourself out and so you can make healthy habits in other areas of your life. It can’t be 100% music, there has to be a balance

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve “Made it” multiple times, and thought I was set for life, then was hit with rhe reality that it is never over and you have to keep on pushing for those goals and making new goals. I’ve ran 8 studios, 1 that I ran and paid for myself, no matter what happened I never stopped building and making relationships, ive had alot of artsits that passed away or went to jail. Ive lost big deal opportunities that could’ve changed my life and others around me. It has been a long journey and I am still pushing.
