Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Estrada. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Sarah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I have been a hairdresser working behind the chair for 9 years. I worked in my first commission salon for 6 years with an incredible boss and team. There were a lot of obstacles of learning in those years with my craft of hair and creating a clientele. In 2021, I decided to make the jump into opening my own salon. My Salon’s name is Estrada’s Haven and I work at a Sola Salons around other business owners. It’s been a wonderful 3 years so far having my own salon and learning all about being a business owner. I have an amazing clientele and have worked very hard to get where I am at with my business. I have won Missouri’s best hairstylist awards multiple years in a row which is something my clients, friends and family have to vote for online. There are multiple events that I have offered my time in the community and that’s one thing I love is giving back. I wouldn’t be where I’m at without my family and friends that have supported me along the way.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I enrolled at the Paul Mitchell school here in Springfield, Mo. in 2013 and graduated May of 2015. I worked very hard to get my clientele by handing out business cards and being a part of a networking group. I offer haircuts, hair colors and perming services as well as facial waxing. I also love doing updos, so weddings and prom season are a favorite of mine. I am very proud of the name that I have made for myself and my business and very thankful for the opportunities I’ve gotten to have. I love working local events and giving back to community when I can. The continuing education is also a must because you are never done learning, especially in my line of work.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy has definitely been networking! I was apart of a networking group for a few years called The Mob. We met once a week and gave each other referrals and helped grow each others businesses. I usually have business cards with me and hand them out whenever I can. Also, having social media is huge in my industry and I’ve gotten a lot of clients just from that.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building your audience with hair nowadays is totally easy and free advertisement! People are scrolling on their phone and then they come across your hair pictures or videos and that peaks an interest. Facebook, Instagram and tik tok have been a huge help in growing my business and the use of hashtags have led people to my page.
