We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eugenia Károlyi Popcev a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eugenia, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
It’s been a privilege to be a part of the Gatorade 5v5 Global Finals London 2024. This program started in Milan 2016 with the goal of inspiring and encouraging kids to play and stay in football through enhanced experiences.
It’s an honor to be a part of this program year after year, witnessing its growth and the huge impact it has on the kids, and everyone involved.
This year in London, we had 114 kids, representing 11 countries, competing to attend the UEFA Champions League Final in Wembley Stadium. This has been my favorite project since 2017, not just because the impact it has on the kids, but also the life changing impact the kids have on me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born in Venezuela, but feel as a citizen of the world. I am an experienced sports journalist and marketing professional with a track record of developing creative and strategic content, partnership marketing, and fan engagement. Considered one of the early ‘creators’ of digital sports content, I have traveled the world as a journalist and producer working with major sports brands, organizations and media outlets such as LALIGA TV, Barça One, adidas, Gatorade, ESPN, and beIN Sports. Some of the major events I have worked on are: LALIGA, FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Women’s Champions League, Olympic Games, FIFA Club World Cup, Copa America, Gold Cup, Panam Games, the Longines Global Champions Tour, WBSC Premier12, and more.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to create a better world through football. Authenticity has been my greatest tool to become a relevant figure in the sports industry, creating impactful stories and leading by example to connect with fans, brands and organizations with the goal to build a better future together.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The sports world is a fast paced, hectic and inconsistent industry. The greatest resource I have acquired in the latest years is the practice and mastery of kundalini yoga to allow me to surf the waves of this ever changing business, and world, with a regulated nervous system to allow myself to work passionately in what I love without it taking a toll on my mental, physical and emotional health.
