We recently connected with De’Seane Thompson and have shared our conversation below.
De’Seane , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
I had my first job 3 months after I starting modeling. I am so blessed to have such an opportunity this early in my career. I seen that Mr.
Robison(@darrellantonephotography) was hosting a photography workshop and he needed more models. I clicked so fast to let him know that I would love to be apart of this project. He replied back saying that he think I’ll be a great fit and added me to the group chat with the other models. I was a little timid leading up to the workshop but once I got there I felt very comfortable. Everyone was extremely nice and looked out for me. This was my first ever “job” as a model. I posed in front of various backdrops so the photographers could learn how to better capture an image. I met the different models and photographers there and learned how they started their journey as well. Overall, I had a great experience and would choose that workshop to be my first ever job over and over again. Thank you Darrell for the amazing opportunity!!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi everyone, my name is De’Seane. I am 18 years old and a now sophomore in college. I started modeling in February so almost 4 months ago. I’ve always wanted to model but never thought I had the “look”. Little did I know, the modeling industry has changed so much. Every color, shape, and height is acceptable these days. I joined about 7 groups on Facebook pertaining to modeling in my area. I made a post asking if anyone knew how I can start my journey and any helpful tips they can provide. I was surprised to see that people were reaching out immediately telling me various tips about the industry. I went to bed that night and woke up with over 500 DM’s and comments under my post. I literally took the day off just to respond to everyone. I quickly noticed most were scams but everyone else seemed to truly mean their words. I felt so appreciative that they not only took time out of their day to give me helpful tips and affirmations, but they started my journey with modeling. Someone mentioned the JBolin casting that was being held and I immediately started preparing. I bought my first pair of heels and walked in them everyday. Although I didn’t hear a callback, that casting was everything and more. We were all dancing, I made new model friends, and we just had a great time. I was extremely nervous when I seen Mr. Bolin but I did what I came there to do and rocked it. That following day I went to a casting for slay magazine. Ms. LaTarsha reached out on my post saying she was having a casting so I had to stop by. I was also nervous for this casting but again, I did what I had to do. I later found out that I was accepted to walk in her show. I was so shocked given that it was my second casting and I had only been “modeling” for 2 weeks. The fashion show is in June and I cannot wait to show what I have been working on these past few months. Since starting modeling in February, I’ve had about 10 photo shoots as well. I’ve gained 200+ followers on my instagram page, got accepted to walk in two fashion shows including one in LA fashion week, and have two modeling contracts in the work. I am beyond grateful on how my journey has been going. I have so much more to prove and show the world. I’m so proud of my self for taking the step to live my dream. Before modeling I was such an introvert but I truly feel in my element when doing so. I’m meeting new people and making great memories. This is only the beginning, I can guarantee you will be seeing me on billboards, magazines, and many more soon!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have a few goals for modeling. My overall goal is to show little girls like myself that we can do anything. No matter when you start your journey to success, never give up. Your worst dream is the one not lived. I know in my journey I will run into so much rejection but I will never give up. My passion is too strong to just quit. I want this more than anything. I would love to walk for Christian Dior as well. That has been a goal since December of last year. I also believe I can be on a skincare/makeup ad. Lastly, I would love to walk in every major fashion week. In order to complete these goals I understand I’ll have to put in a lot of work but I’m ready. Anything that is thrown my way I will confidently approach and make do with it.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I do not have much experience being a model just yet, but so far I would say the enjoyment I get out of it. Right now I doesn’t necessarily seem like a job. I truly love taking photos and dressing up. It’s so crazy because I never really took photos before this but something just sparked. I look forward to everything model related now. Hopefully I’ll be able to make this my full time job and I’m sure my answer would change then. I think the ability to travel and see new parts of the world would be my favorite. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do so seeing it while also working would be a dream.
