We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ron C Baby a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ron C Baby thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My most meaningful project has been my latest project, 2COPE. This project was written from such a good headspace. I wrote 3 pages every single morning & began my journey of working out during the creation of this album. My level of discipline & confidence in my writing is what makes this my meaningful project. It’s fun, it real, it’s raw, it’s inspirational with a little bit of ratchetness all mixed into one body of work! This also marks the first time i’ve had features on my album. I really enjoyed the creative process of working with others.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Ron C Baby! An aspiring Hip-Hop artist from Jacksonville, Florida (Duuuuvaalll). I fell inlove with music at a very young age. I grew up listening to a variety of different music from my pops listening to the Ojays, The Temptations & Curtis Mayfield…my mom playing Luther Vandross, The Waiting To Exhale sound track & Anita Baker…& my big sister blasting 2pac, DMX & all the latest new Hip Hop of the time. Along with my love for music, I’ve always loved reading & writing as well.
I wrote my first song at 14, back when I was HEAVILY influenced by Lil Wayne. That was 2008 & I have been writing songs ever since. I recorded my first song in 2010 using a program named Music Creator 5 by Cakewalk & a cheap Wal-Mart headset mic. I have been hooked ever since that night in my room, when I heared my voice played back over that YouTube beat! lol
Writing & creating music is a true gift from God. It’s been my therapy. It has helped me cope with literally everything I’ve ever been through since I discovered the power of expressing yourself poetically, in written form & rapping over a beat. Sometimes I want to dig deep, sometimes I want to inspire & sometimes I want to party. My music is based on how I’m feeling at the moment.
I feel that my love, passion & dedication to Hip-Hop & song writing is what sets me apart from most. I’m a student of the game. I learn from the greats. I have the discipline & desire to get better & better as a writer. Rap is a sport to me & as a competitor, I aim to be the very best.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to connect with my audience on a deeper level. I love when I have people tell me that my music inspired them in any way. It’s even more rewarding when it comes from somebody on the other side of the world. The fact that my music is being listened to and enjoyed by people from all walks of life is very much rewarding to me as well!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes. I am on a mission to be acknowledged by the masses as one of the very best. That is what has been driving me these days. It has made me more disciplined as a man to be honest.
