We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Austin Corbett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Austin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name Point to Point Photography was inspired by my love of nature and being out on the trails. I’m an avid trail runner so I spend a lot time on the trails in the American southwest. A point to point trail is one that takes you from point A to point B. And that’s the goal with my photography. I want to get the businesses that I work with from point A to point B, or in other words, leveling up their business.

Austin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Austin and I’m a photographer based in Flagstaff, AZ, one of the best mountain towns in the US! I got into photography as a hobby, but I quickly realized that I enjoyed it and had a natural talent for it. In 2018, I graduated from Northern Arizona University with my bachelors degree in Field Photography. After graduating, I started working at Historic Brewing Company in Flagstaff, where I worked my way up to being the Marketing Manager of the parent company, Kennelly Concepts. There I created the marketing and photography for 5 different business under the Kennelly Concepts umbrella.
Now, I work for a local outdoor gear company called Kahtoola, where I am the Events and Community Engagement Associate. The transition to Kahtoola was inspired by my passion for the outdoors and specifically, trail running. At Kahtoola, I’m able to be connected with many people who share the same passions I do and have been learning a lot about the outdoor industry.
On the side, I am a photographer specializing in food and beverage photography, as well as other types of commercial photography. Over the 5 years that I worked for Kennelly Concepts, where I gained a ton of experience in food/beverage photography as well as marketing in general. Moving forward, my goal is to help as many local businesses and beyond to improve their business through exceptional imagery.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal with Point to Point Photography is to show small business owners and other brands, how important it is to have great images for your website, social media and other marketing materials. Achieving this will legitimize your brand and attract customers far and wide. And in a world where social media is so important to any business, you have to do what you can to stand out among your competitors.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first got into photography, I was obsessed with landscape photography and that drove my passion for many years. However, after taking a food and beverage photography course, I realized that I liked that type of photography which surprised me. As I thought more about my future, I realized that making it as a landscape photography is a tough way to go, so I decided to pivot. Eventually, I decided that focusing on commercial photography was more lucrative and something that businesses will always need, so I leaned into that and have been doing it ever since.
