We were lucky to catch up with Jordan Garcia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, appreciate you joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am extremely happy to be a business owner! That does not mean all days are perfect if anything far from it! I do sometimes think of having a regular job again. People have a misconception that owning a business means you can do whatever you want and In some ways it does. You have to be 100% more dedicated to the business when you own rather then working in someone else’s business. You end up working more then ever and have to hold yourself to a higher standard of accountability to own your own business and there are days that is hard and it would be much easier to punch a clock and follow someone else’s checklist! I work way more and way harder then ever but the prize is so much more rewarding when it’s your own!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well I have been doing nails for a long time but professionally for 3 years! I had done nails in the past for myself and for fun, but when Covid happened I was laid off from my corporate job! I was kinda devastated but it gave me much more time to practice my craft. I was looking for jobs and was growing frustrated with the lack of job availability at the time. With support and a big push from my amazing husband I decided to enroll in cosmetology school for nails. Once I was licensed I was determined to open a shop when the closures were over, but I wanted to do it differently! I wanted a private experience for my clients! I wanted a place where people can go and be heard and get exactly what they want. I also wanted a safe and clean environment for my clients! I was able to open my shop on June 7th 2021, and just celebrated 1 year open!
I provide a different type of nail appointment for my clients! When you come into my shop you start what I call a Nail Journey! There are so many decisions to make when it comes to your nails do you want long, do you want enhancements ,do you want to grow your own, are you a nailbiter do you want amazing art or do you just want something simple! These are all things that we will take into account when we come up with your plan! When you’re with me we go far beyond just pick a color! I specialize in two main categories which is the growth of natural nails and long sculpted enhancements! The art I get to do is just a bonus!!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy for building clientele has been word-of-mouth. I strive to have the best customer service, and I have my clients leave happy and I always try to fix it if there’s a problem and I feel that my clients are very happy to recommend me to anyone they know and that has helped me build my business.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I used a lot of things to grow my social media presence from different ads to just being on social media a lot. The one piece of advice that I could give is to post often and to Give your followers a glimpse into your actual life make them feel close to you.
