Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Val Douroux. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Val, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

Val, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a Writer, Director, Producer & Location Scout. In short, a story & location master. I tell stories through many different mediums. The most important: My Voice. I Write and Direct through my Film & Video Production Company Concise Focus. We work with brands like Disney, Marvel, Complex Magazine and many others to create videos that tell a unique story of the artists behind the scenes. I also Location Scout in the Location Managers Guild International™. The project I’m most excited to share is “Horizons: An American Saga”. Watch it in theaters June 28.
As a Hobby, I Stand-Up. In the realm of Stand-Up Comedy, and most importantly, for what I believe in. I’m an Activist with Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP). A non-profit organization dedicated to ending the war on drugs. We advocate for laws based on education rather than incarceration. I started the first SSDP chapter at the University of Utah. As an international organization, we passed legislation for medical marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and helped free non-violent marijuana offender Weldon Angelos from prison. We’ll keep up the work until cannabis is completely de-scheduled and every non-violent drug offender is out of prison.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Cream money off that $1.2 billion LAPD budget and fund more Public Art & Cultural initiatives like “We Rise” LA. We spend a gross amount of money perpetuating the illusion of safety, when there’s still crime and injustice. Our lawmakers can reallocate $10-20 million of the LAPD budget to fund public art programs. Artists can utilize that money to create, and the citizens of the city can enjoy a more colorful, and inspiring place to live.
