We were lucky to catch up with Brandon McCarden recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. Talk to us about building a team – did you hire quickly, how’d you recruit the first few team members? Any interesting lessons?
Right now, I am in the process of forming a 501c3 nonprofit called the Clayton Sports Foundation. This organization will be dedicated to educating and creating positive impact for underserved athletes and boys & girls in sports. Although it’s exciting, this is a careful and slow process as I am currently in search of eligible candidates to serve as part of the Board of Directors.
Brandon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was raised in the county I currently serve, working under the Board of Commissioners, out of the Office of Economic Development. I honestly believe my path and journey was destined to lead me back here. It was meant for me to continue to help my community.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The moral of my journey is to fight for what you want, never settle, and to never give up. After college, I worked in a Walmart store and wanted more for myself. That led me to opportunities to work in Arkansas, at the corporate home office as I began to travel for work. I then moved back to Atlanta and worked for the Atlanta Hawks, which then led me back home, to my current role for the local government.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I have access to resources that I leverage to reach specific goals. Working at my office gave me a network of information and tools to gain capital. Loans, grants, partnerships etc.
