We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stella Millender. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stella below.
Hi Stella, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I originally started with ping makeup in 8th grade. My signature was the way I highlight my clients which is where the name Glows came from. I eventually expanded my business to being a nail tech 3-4 years later as I was graduating high school. I then fell in love with the art of nails and started to focus more on that.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started freshman year in college doing gel sets for $25. Then as I got better I started doing other styles. I now offer custom press-ons, toe services, and a variety of styles for acrylic full sets.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
WOKING. All small business owners should have a job to support their business and keep the money they make from their business. You shouldn’t just be relying on your small business for money until it’s too hard to have mother job. If you are booked 3 months in advance yea round then okay. But if you have 5 clients a week you need to have another job.

Any advice for managing a team?
HONESTY. People love honesty and communication. Let your team and staff know in the beginning what you expect from them. And keep it consistent. Be there for them and they will be there for you. When you see them slipping with reponsibities you need to address it then. If not it will be a snowball effect and you will have problems.
