We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shane Svorec. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shane below.
Shane, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
As a writer, I am more than a storyteller. I am a truthteller, an illuminator of human conditions, and a compassionate voice of reason. Much of my writing focuses on humanity and explores the power of human interactions and the need to address the underserved, overlooked, and misunderstood.
My awareness of the world and the plight of others allows me to illuminate current issues and challenges while encouraging solutions and fostering a culture of greater empathy. I believe I have an obligation and a responsibility to use my skills and talents to bring people together for the common good. Without understanding, we cannot truly serve or find solutions.
My first book, Broken Little Believer, is a journey that reveals heartbreaking and heartwarming stories. It’s a story for the underdogs and an anthem for survivors. With topics ranging from poverty, homelessness, abuse, divorce, illness, grief, bullying, and so much more, the book is written in a way that removes shame and embarrassment and encourages readers to open their eyes to truth and reality while having a good laugh and cry doing so. The book, ultimately, is about shifting our perspective and opening our eyes to not only the beautiful pieces and parts of life but the painful ones, too. It recognizes that we all endure hardships; therefore, practicing gratitude for what we have while being aware of the pain of others allows us to form a stronger sense of community and a more empathetic world.
I’d like to believe that my writing serves as a bridge to spawn greater awareness and understanding of the underserved. My goal is that it opens eyes, touches hearts, and encourages positive change.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My career began in Sales and Marketing. It was a natural fit for someone who loves to travel, meet new people, build relationships, and create solutions for my customers. Meanwhile, my longtime dream of writing was just that—a dream. Traveling to and from meetings, I spent countless hours on planes, trains, and buses, putting pen to paper and chronicling my observations and feelings. As I commuted for my “real” job, I fulfilled my dream of writing. As years went on and my relationships with customers grew stronger, many would remark that I had a way of making them feel heard, valued, and understood. They noticed that I paid attention to details that others overlooked. They respected that I never tried to sell them something they didn’t need and knew that integrity and trust could be counted on when I was involved. The care and commitment I demonstrated to my customers went beyond the sale, and they knew that. The sale was a byproduct of my genuine care and investment in their success.
This type of feedback became commonplace, and I realized that, though I was a successful salesperson, my gift was understanding people, identifying opportunities, and working together to find a solution. The more I wrote, the more people followed me on social media. As I explored topics many were concerned about, people would comment that my messages resonated with them and had “perfect timing.” When tragedy or crisis struck, I shared words of peace and comfort. When confusion set in, I offered different perspectives. It wasn’t about hitting a sales quota. It was about making a difference. It always has been for me.
During COVID, the retail industry changed significantly. With more online shopping, virtual appointments, and contactless deliveries, I couldn’t help but see its impact on our culture and personal relationships. Our world was becoming increasingly disconnected from human interaction, and people were hurting. They still are.
I knew then that my attention to detail, awareness of others, and commitment to addressing needs made me a good salesperson. However, I later realized it also contributed to my being a good writer by uniquely and genuinely connecting with readers’ hearts. I decided I would no longer put my dream of writing off and was determined to use it for good. Like my customers in the sales industry, I am humbled to hear from readers who commented that “somehow,” I understood what they were feeling and that my words brought them comfort and reassurance. There is no better compliment or more fulfilling position than one that paves a path for greater understanding and human connection.
Being a writer is a gift. If my words can help inspire, encourage, and connect others, I have done my job.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an author is meeting new people and connecting with so many. It is an honor when someone buys my book and takes the time to immerse themselves in my story. It is even more humbling when a reader or listener reaches out to me and says that my words made a difference in their life, changed the way they see something, helped them through hardship, or led them to have hope. WOW! If this isn’t the definition of rewarding, I don’t know what is.
I also find it incredibly rewarding when I visit schools, and students who want to become writers ask me about my journey and the writing process. I love being an example to others and showing them that dreams come true.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being authentic, unfiltered, and unafraid to be vulnerable has helped build my reputation. It’s a vast and competitive market, and everyone vies for attention, sales, and market share. My goal is to be relevant and trustworthy. I do not jump on bandwagons and will often take the road less traveled, even if it’s not popular. My readers, followers, friends, and fans appreciate that I am unafraid to be me and encourage others to do the same. I will never compromise my integrity and strive to associate with people who share and follow the same rules of thumb – be kind, respectful, helpful, and genuine.
