We were lucky to catch up with Makatelyn Shepherd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Makatelyn, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The mission of confidence and having confidence is not just important to me, but in the grand scope of life, it is important to everyone’s life. Confidence is a word the world tells you to have, but as soon as you really have it and walk in it, the world, then tries to deter you from having it. They tell you to “dream big”, “live out your dreams”, “you can be whatever you want to be,” and at the moment of pursuing all of those perfect and great affirmations, the world will then try to pull you away from being confident and being who you were made to be. I believe the mission of spreading confidence will not only change and shift a generation for those who truly walk in it, but it will also increase the faith, hope, trust and ones own belief (which are synonyms of confidence) and the definition of the word in itself. God was confident when he made us and so it is our right, our duty and our commitment to God and ourselves, to be ourselves and walk in confidence boldy and unapologetically.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is MaKatelyn Shepherd and Closet Confidence was birthed by way of vision from the Lord. I graduated with my BA in English from the University of West Georgia with a minor in creative writing. Being a creative has been inside of me from the time I was a little girl. Confidence has been a word. I have used to describe myself from the time I learned the definition of the word. I have never been one to fit in. I have never wanted to fit in. I have always embraced the fact that I am the only Makatelyn Shepherd in the world, and that makes me walk in my confidence more boldy.
The goal of Closet Confidence will always be to pull out the confidence everyone already has within them from the day they were born. I always say “God was confident when he created us” because even twins have different fingerprints. God knew each person on this earth had a level of confidence in which they could walk in and BE themselves fully. It is kind of a slap in God‘s face when you do not walk confidently, as if God made a mistake and he never makes mistakes.
Through Closet Confidence I have started a podcast, confidence, apparel, I am a motivational speaker, and have been invited numerous places to speak and encourage people and kids on confidence – the way that God sees it.
The main thing I want potential buyers and followers to know about my brand and business is, everyone has confidence already, it’s about knowing it, ,living it, walking in it and living a life every day confidently the way that God intended for everyone to be themselves and to be unapologetic about who God made them to be.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I had to make a pivot in my business and my career when I had my son. Being a mother was a new thing to me. There is no handbook. There are no amount of books to prepare you for the joy and growth which comes with being and becoming a mom. I knew it would shift and shape my business as it has today, and I am so grateful for it. I became!!
My prayer after having my son was for God to just allow me to “begin again” and never lose my confidence for what he is telling me for whatever season I am in. During the time, I also changed careers from being a pre-K teacher to now teaching crime so it helped my confidence, but it also was a huge, but great pivot.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think my resilience will always lie in God. He is the most resilient person I know. He never changes. He never switches up. If you read the word, it says he is the same today yesterday and forever. So when I think about resilience, and when I speak confidence, my confidence and my resilience to bounce back or to start again or to begin again, always will lie in the confidence of the one who made me. I think it’s simple.
