We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Billynaire Cruz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Billynaire, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success can mean different things to different people, but generally, it requires a combination of factors like hard work, perseverance, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from failures.
One anecdote that comes to mind is about Thomas Edison, who famously said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” This illustrates the importance of resilience and the willingness to keep trying despite setbacks.
As for how I developed my view, it’s based on analyzing the lives and strategies of successful individuals across various fields, from business and science to the arts. Their stories often highlight common themes such as dedication, passion, and a growth mindset.

Billynaire, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Certainly! As an artist entrepreneur, I embarked on my journey into the world of creativity with a passion for expressing myself through various mediums such as painting, sculpture, digital art, or any other form of artistic expression. My fascination with art began at a young age, and over the years, I honed my skills through practice, experimentation, and formal education.
My brand is centered around providing unique and compelling artistic creations that resonate with people on a personal and emotional level. I offer a range of products and services, including original artwork, commissioned pieces, prints, merchandise featuring my designs, and even workshops or tutorials to inspire others to unleash their creativity.
One of the key problems I solve for my clients is the quest for meaningful and impactful art that speaks to their individual tastes and preferences. Whether it’s decorating their living space, adding flair to their business environment, or seeking a special gift for a loved one, I strive to create art that brings joy, inspiration, and a sense of connection.
What sets me apart from others in the art world is my unique perspective, style, and ability to connect deeply with my audience. Each piece I create is infused with my own experiences, emotions, and insights, making it truly one-of-a-kind. Additionally, I’m dedicated to providing exceptional customer service and fostering genuine relationships with my clients, ensuring that their artistic journey is as fulfilling as possible.
I’m most proud of the impact my art has had on people’s lives, whether it’s evoking a powerful emotion, sparking a meaningful conversation, or simply bringing a smile to someone’s face. Knowing that my creations have touched the hearts and minds of others is incredibly rewarding and drives me to continue pushing the boundaries of my creativity.
For potential clients, followers, or fans, I want them to know that my art is more than just decorative pieces; it’s a reflection of my soul and a catalyst for personal growth and connection. I invite them to join me on this artistic journey, explore the depths of their imagination, and discover the transformative power of creativity.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Certainly! There was a time early in my career when I faced a series of rejections and setbacks that tested my resilience as an artist entrepreneur. I had poured my heart and soul into creating a collection of artworks that I believed strongly in, only to receive rejection after rejection from galleries and art shows.
Despite feeling disheartened, I refused to give up on my dream. Instead of dwelling on the setbacks, I used them as motivation to work even harder. I revisited my creative process, sought feedback from mentors and peers, and continuously refined my techniques and style.
One day, an opportunity presented itself in the form of a local art fair. Despite my previous rejections, I decided to apply, fueled by a renewed sense of determination. To my delight, I was accepted, and the art fair turned out to be a turning point in my career.
Not only did I sell several pieces, but I also received positive feedback from attendees and even caught the attention of a gallery owner who expressed interest in showcasing my work. It was a validating moment that reaffirmed my belief in myself and my art.
Looking back, I realize that those rejections were a blessing in disguise. They forced me to dig deep, push past my comfort zone, and ultimately emerge stronger and more resilient than ever before. Today, I carry that resilience with me as a reminder that setbacks are not failures but rather opportunities for growth and success.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that success is solely determined by external validation or recognition.
Early in my journey, I placed a lot of emphasis on seeking approval from others, whether it was through accolades, awards, or social media validation. I believed that these external markers of success were the ultimate measure of my worth as an artist entrepreneur.
However, over time, I realized that true fulfillment and satisfaction come from within, not from external sources. I came to understand that the most meaningful successes are often personal victories – moments of growth, resilience, and self-discovery that may go unnoticed by the outside world.
The backstory to this lesson was a period of self-reflection and introspection, during which I questioned my motivations and priorities. I realized that my obsession with external validation was detracting from my passion for art and stifling my creative expression.
Through this journey of self-discovery, I learned to focus less on seeking approval from others and more on staying true to myself and my artistic vision. I shifted my mindset from seeking validation to seeking fulfillment, and in doing so, found a newfound sense of freedom and authenticity in my work.
Unlearning the belief that external validation equals success was a liberating experience that allowed me to embrace my artistry wholeheartedly and pursue my passion with renewed purpose and conviction.
