Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melizza Rosich. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Melizza, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I have always loved to bake. Once I was allowed to use the oven, I started to bake concoctions. And before that I was pretending to bake on my apartment’s radiator. Dessert was always my contribution to family and work potlucks. So it wasn’t too much a surprise when I decided to take on cake decorating.
in 2015, I purchased “Layered” by Tessa Huff and baked my way through it. I soon realized, that I enjoyed decorating cakes and wanted to make a career out of it. I continued to practice, following YouTube tutorials and taking online classes, until I felt confident in my skills. Once I did, I went on to get my business license, cottage baking permit, and insurance. I launched my business on May 3, 2019 and was doing pretty well until I discovered I had a gluten intolerance.
My intolerance was so bad I had to close my business and reformulate my tried and true cake recipes to gluten-free ones. In August 2020, I relaunched as a gluten-free cake business and have been thriving ever since.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Living in Seattle I find a lot of inspiration in nature: mountain ranges, spring flowers, and the seashore. I also look for inspiration in ceramics and fabrics. I love creating cakes with texture and movement. When you order a cake from Linden Park Whisk, you get a gorgeous cake that is so good you won’t miss the gluten!

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
You don’t always have to pay to learn a skill. I purchased a few classes before realizing that a lot of creators were awesome enough to share their information online for free. YouTube is such a great resource for free information. It’s a great starting point when you have questions and need to see how a technique is done.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to make gorgeous cakes that can be enjoyed by folks who do not eat gluten and those that do. I love to play with recipes and make them my own. It’s great to be able to share what I find to be delicious and amazing with others. I feel fortunate that people enjoy my edible art.
