We were lucky to catch up with Shawnda Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shawnda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project, is all of our past performances with our talented actors, and seeing their growth and confidence and love and support for one another.
Shawnda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Starting a non-profit theater program for adults with special needs. Major Impact Theater (MIT) was founded in 2014 by Jill Garson and I. We both worked in the field of special needs and found a need for a program that showcases people with disabilities and their artistic talents. We’re an organization whose mission is “Making a Major Impact on the everyday lives of adults with disabilities through theater arts.” Our mission statement is “We’re not actors with disabilities, we’re actors.”
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in my mission, is that each act,or is seen for their true talents and “Disabilities” is just a word not a road block. Our motto is “YES WE CAN”.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me , what is the most rewarding, is seeing how each creative theater performance and months of hard work, determination and seeing each actors cofidence shine and their creative talents come alive.
