We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paulette Perez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paulette below.
Paulette , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Well, AI is a huge trend as of late. I think it is an amazing tool that has been incorporated into photography and editing. I know some people worry because it is known AI art takes inspiration from real life artists, but I believe most humans also draw inspiration (wether conscious or subconscious) from other creators. I believe AI can be amazing as an editing tool in the photography field, you can change a whole background and if AI gets it right it is believable. A question that arises is will AI take over editor’s jobs? I believe it will not, it will only make things easier for all of us as it is a tool and cannot replace the brilliance of the human eye and mind.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a photographer that is in her vibrant and moody fase. I actually started this business in 2017 and have studied photography in Mexico and the US. My main focus is wedding and portrait photography. I truly believe that client interaction is incredibly important so my focus is not just showing up for a photoshoot and thats it, i believe the user experience begins from the very first time I receive an inquiery, I like to meet my possible clients and get to know them, that way the day of the photoshoot I can keep in mind what they truly want and make their experience unique to their story. I am currently working on a set of self portraits, my love of being in front of the camera only began during the pandemic since I was missing taking photos and I could be my only model, keep an eye out for more self portraits as well as my dear client photoshoots.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
Near death experience! I have had many of those, let me tell you about one in particular, I was taking photos at the beach in La Jolla, CA. It is a rocky beach and I like to get the best shot even if I have to stand on my tippy toes on top of a rock, yes I did that with my camera and thankfully my dear client shouted as a wave was about to crash and take me with it into the water… Lets just say I have never ran so fast and so elegantly (yeah right) in my life
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Oh the very best feeling is when you receive a text as soon as my client sees their photo gallery and they tell me how much they love my photos. Also when they instantly post their photos to social media it means the world to me. One small tip to anyone reading: do not add a filter to your professionally taken and edited photos! It takes hours of editing and looking at your beautiful faces to male sure everything is correct. So whenever a client posts their photos (and I have yet to see anyone adding a filter) I feel so accomplished because I know I did a good job.
