We recently connected with Alyson Haines and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alyson thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Quitting my corporate job without having another corporate job lined up is probably one of the bigger risks I’ve taken but also one of the most aligned risks and necessary risks. To put this into context, let’s go back to 2020. I had worked in the Entertainment industry for 15 years at this point and my entire identity was wrapped up in my job. I didn’t know who I was without my job until the pandemic hit, and my job disappeared overnight (like so many others!). I was forced to really take a step back. I found myself pondering the future and what I deeply desired — at it’s core that desire was internal peace — and I knew I wouldn’t find that staying where I was and so it was time to close that chapter.
In 2022, I left the Entertainment industry (just as scary as the leap to entrepreneurship) to start over and work in Tech. I found a lot of things in the tech space — including my confidence and my voice as a thought leader but I would also find some shadows that made it clear that it was time for me to move on and so earlier this year I decided it was time to make the leap and go full time in my business even though I didn’t feel like the safety net was ready yet. But honestly would the net have ever been ready? I’m not really sure! This is one of those stories where I can’t tell you how it ends because I’m still living it in real time but what I can tell you is it was an aligned decision and the right one for my mental, physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m the founder of Alyson Haines Wellness LLC where I bring together intuitive life coaching, breathwork & reiki to curate somatic experiences for the spiritually curious and spiritually skeptical communities. I’m on a mission to empower individuals to leave the self-imposed expectations that we must make ourselves palatable in order to find success behind so that we may rediscover our truest essence, begin to live the life we so deeply desire and to ultimately come home to ourselves!
I feel like there is a common misconception that entrepreneurial paths are linear and that just seems so far from the truth. I started with just a podcast and truly no idea what I wanted my business to be but I knew the corporate world wasn’t for me. I started by going through a Life Coaching Certification program but even then I still wasn’t sure if that was ‘it’. After attending an in-person retreat last year where I struggled with altitude sickness, breathwork found me. Learning to regulate my nervous system was a game changer. I got certified shortly after which connected me to energy healing world and after working with a spiritual mentor for several months I knew becoming a Reiki Practitioner was my next step. Now I’m able to curate unique somatic experiences that bring together various modalities so that my clients are able to find that same energetic alignment that changed my life for themselves.
My clients are what I would consider to be spiritually curious. Many have just stumbled upon spiritual practices over time and are curious to learn more about working with their own energy. Right now I work primarily one to one with clients through either somatic healing sessions or one to one spiritual life coaching. Coming later this year I’ll be launching a spiritual wellness community for the spiritually curious. I’m so excited for this! I truly believe that these spiritual and energetic practices should be and can be accessible to everyone and curating this space has been one of my most favorite projects to date!
When I started to become spiritually curious I found a lot of what I was learning felt out of reach and the type of mentor I desired to work with just didn’t exist at the most accessible levels and I’m on a mission to change that! A through-line I see with my clients is that they are into personal development — doing all the ‘right things’. Reading all the books, listening to the podcasts, attending the workshops, going to the conferences and yet they still feel stuck and lack clarity. They feel like they can’t move the needle despite giving it all they have. What I find is that when we do the work in our heads but not in our bodies, until our energetic bodies heal it can be hard to fully integrate the lesson and therefore it’ll keep resurfacing and keep us feeling stagnant. This is why energy work matters!
As humans we rarely want to give ourselves credit for how far we’ve come. Looking back I couldn’t have imagined I would end up where I am now and yet I’m so grateful for all the twists and turns because ultimately I’m able to stand proudly in my truth now because of this journey and that’s my wish for all of my clients – that they too can move past the fear of being seen, uncover their truth and be proud to stand confidently in that truth every day moving forward!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Honestly word of mouth! As an entrepreneur I feel like the marketing guru’s tell you it’s about the number of posts, the time on video, etc. but for me majority of my clients come from referrals from other clients or podcast guests! One of favorite things about the podcasting space is the genuine connections you get to build and how those connections blossom into real relationships that last years. It’s so cool to have a client reach out and say they have listened to the show for years or that they are part of a podcast guests community which is how they got connected to my work. I also truly love supporting my guest’s businesses and sending client referrals their way too!

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
To be successful in my field, you have to get over the fear of being seen and really embody your work. If I’m not practicing my spiritual wellness practices daily I’m doing my clients a disservice. I have to invest in myself just as much. Also having a really great support system in place is so necessary!
