We recently connected with Inayah El-Amin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Inayah, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
So far one of my most meaningful projects is the 7-song project my band SoulFlower is putting out. It will be the first project dropped since the first single. I am the lead vocalists and bassist in the band SoulFlower. It started off as just me exploring music, playing the bass guitar and in bands. Writing posting demos to SoundCloud. Through the rich talented music and arts scene in Minneapolis. I was connected to my bandmates and started performing live shows around Minneapolis. These songs are ones written during Summer 2023. Since then the songs/project has evolved and SoulFlower as a unit. It feels so meaningful because I know the patience, change and trust that went into the process. It’s also a pleasure to go through it with bandmates who support one another. I feel humbled, especially with it being my first time doing anything like this. The whole process from the beginning as I know it, has been a synchronistic flow. Music and performing has always been in my life. So it feels right and familiar to be dedicated so much time and passion into finding a balance between my lifestyle and art and work. Especially because I want them to exist together.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello my name is Inayah El-Amin. I am an artist, with a focus on music. I am the lead vocalist and bassist in the band SoulFlower. Which I also currently manage too. I’ve been on stage since I was little, so this path isn’t to foreign. I got into band managing when I started a band for my music under the name of SoulFlower. I blossomed in an artist collective called, The Cherry Pit. There I played with my first band, got to meet so many musician in the city and got to learn from others. From there I connected with folks to play in the band. We gone from more of a front band for my personal music, to a band collaborating and writing music together, Some things I do has a band manager as well as playing live shows with the band is: talk with venues, collect the money, plan rehearsals and photoshoots, etc. Gets all logistics, running merchandise. It is a lot. I am actually putting together a team to help more asnd fill tasks I do. not need to do alone.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
So our clientele as a band would be our supporters. folks who come out to shows, stream our music, watch and interact with our posts and videos. One effective strategy is of course, word of mouth. Nothing gets people’s attention like being on a stage. Introducing the band, sharing social media and way to contact us is important to stay connected. Through shows you get more show opportunities. So staying semi-busy, can help gain momentum.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
starting off with a more personal account to now what is the band’s account. going out and meeting people and sharing your handle and work around in so beneficial. You’ll meet so many people interested in what you’re doing, they’ll want to support and stay connected and up to date. My advice would be continue creating, living and posting just speak up more to those around about what you have going on.
