We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lisa Chapman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
My business started as an idea to have an office and offer angel card readings and Reiki. I did the relevant training for both. However, during this time, I lived in Florida and discovered you had to have a Massage license to offer Reiki, so it all got put on the back burner. We decided to move from Florida and chose Colorado, then another curveball came my way when I was involved in a fairly bad car accident.
This down time gave me time to think and reflect on what I actually wanted to do. I then discovered Halotherapy and thought that it would be a great thing to have in my business, and little by little the idea grew into what is now Celestial Salt llc.
When I was finally physically and financially ready to start the process of moving from idea to execution I scoured the area of town I wanted to be located and after several months found my space The contract was a lot of back and forth but eventually got settled and signed. Luckily the space did not need any major work. I had already ordered the Halotherapy booths I wanted and had done a lot of research and taken action of buying items for resale, and I had also worked out a good booking/inventory platform for us to use, this did take a lot of work to set everything up, but I am pleased with how it looks. We opened at the end of April 2022, now the main thing is continuing to let the community know we are here and the services we provide.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Lisa, I am originally from England, moved to Florida in May 2007 then to Colorado in November 2017, we were tired of the heat so decided to escape to somewhere cooler.
I have studied in several areas relating to my business. Reiki master, Crystal healing, Angel Card Read and Angel Intuitive. I have been Claircognizant (clear knowing) for as long as I can remember and since having a car accident-related head injury other psychic gifts started to come through, I now get information in colors and images too. I am currently learning sound healing with quartz singing bowls and I am always looking to learn more to benefit my business and community.
I wanted to provide a space for people to improve their wellness on all levels and so several facets of the business were born. We offer halotherapy, Infra-red, Red-light, also Massage and Reiki. We have psychic readers almost daily and will host psychic fairs throughout the year. Starting August 2022, we will have yoga and are planning to add several other events/classes too. such as our Cacao Ceremony schedules for August.and I am looking for instructors for Tai Chi, Qi Gong and breathing/meditation classes.
We also have a store area offering Himalayan Salt lamps, soaps and bath salt and metaphysical items such as candles, crystals, sage and books and card decks
I also love to make acrylic paint poured artwork and jewelry and both are for sale in our store.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
We are a really new business but so far it is mostly word of mouth and some people from social media posts. I have taken steps with a local promotional company to get us listed more prominently on Google etc and should start seeing some business from that soon.
I also did a promotion on Groupon, so far only a small amount of interest. I think partly because Halotherapy isn’t as yet too well known, but we are trying to change that.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey, or at least the thought for the business model I wanted, started several years ago in Florida, I found out I could not offer Reiki there, we had no reasons to stay there. Eventually we decided to move and chose Colorado
I was in the process of finding office space when I had a car accident that resulted in hip, elbow surgeries and a brain injury and visual issues. This took me out of the game for over 3 years while I recovered.
This time off also allowed me to get clear on how I wanted my business to be, and what I wanted to provide to our community.
Several times I had thought of giving up and just moving back to England, but knew I was here to create this and provide this facility for our community and so here we are trying to get our name out there and let people know what we provide and what we are hoping to achieve.
