We recently connected with Andre Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Andre, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
My aunt paid off my remaining tuition balance in order fore to complete my master’s degree.
I began my undergraduate studies as a single father or 1. I completed my bachelor’s program but over time, work responsibilities and parenting duties reduced my ability to pursue further education. Once I enrolled in graduate school, I was then the father of 3, which placed further strain on my need to earn income. I lost employment at a point and could not afford to commit to the education process, having to take care of my family. I was not given academic forbearance from the university and had to withdraw, leaving a debt.
My aunt paid off my course in order for me to complete my program…this was unexpected and at a time where I was pursuing a music career. I willingly received thebblessing and was able to obtain my master’s degree in psychology.
This set the stage for my therapy career and showed me just how much my family loves and supports me. I would probably still be working for other, attempting to climb the corporate ladder, had this not occurred.

Andre, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I operate several businesses, with the highlights being Ablevision counseling and consulting services(my therapy practice) and Grown Men Entertainment, G.M.E.(my music company).
I got into the music business in 2007 due to my desire to help others utilize their skills and stay out of trouble, with my uncle being my primary focus. This initial effort has grown into an artist development company where we provide music business education, promotion, public relations, performance opportunities, etc. the fact that we don’t look to sign artists, yet assist them along their individual journeys is what sets us apart. I am most proud of our expansion efforts. We have established a southern division based in Atlanta and working on a western division. I would like artists and potential customers to know that we strive to improve independent artistry and to empower creatives to properly earn money for their craft.
Ablevision was officially birthed in 2019 from an energy to provide a quality male example for younger males and to create a sense of normalcy for seeking therapeutic assistance. We provide individual, groups, couples, and family based therapy…servicing all that can benefit from out skillet. We also assist with business consulting/development. Our person-centered approach and commitment to non-traditional practices set us apart from others. I am most proud of that fact that we have been able to incorporate community partners/funders into the treatment process to ensure all those seeking support can receive it despite insurance or financial standing.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe being consistent and honest have helped to build my reputation in both the music industry and the mental health field. I do not over promise, therefore limiting missed deliverables. I am extremely transparent with my process and don’t look to persuade people to use my services. There are times when I support other business owners for the networking opportunities…and nothing more. Giving openly creates reciprocal energy when I promote products or services.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Ablevision was initially funded via crowd sourcing/go fund me campaigns. I wanted to get ahead of the demand for service and keep options available for those without proper insurance coverage. I had minimal overhead at the onset and was able to secure necessary funds to treat clients.
G.M.E. was funded from my own pocket, hoagie sells, and carwashes. My goal was to eliminate any possibility of “negative money_ entering the process. My family, supports, and community stakeholders contributed heavily.
