Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Corrine Counts. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Corrine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
As a reseller of vintage furniture and home decor, it’s very common for others in the industry to believe that we should only be buying vintage and secondhand items. So many resellers shame others for selling vintage decor but still shopping for some things on amazon or other retail stores. I disagree with this because i don’t think anyone should be shamed or ridiculed for shopping from retail stores. Even though buying vintage items is a more sustainable and environmentally friendly option, for a lot of customers it is simply not that easy. I personally enjoy decorating my apartment with a mix of vintage, antique and new items. Most resellers don’t offer returns or warranties either, which is another reason some decide to buy new instead.
Corrine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been a dental hygienist for 11 years but when covid lockdown happened, I was out of work for a while since you can’t clean teeth from home! In October 2020, I started my business Frederick Home Finds based completely on Instagram. I source playful, luxurious decor and furniture for my customers. I really enjoy helping others incorporate more color and character into their homes while maintaining style and maturity. I don’t source items based on certain brands or age, it’s all based on style.
I am very proud of the brand and following I’ve built. Yes i sell home decor but i try to incorporate other content on my page as well. I’ve realized the more of my personality and life i share, the more connection i build with my customers and followers. This is especially important as I’ve broken into doing more digital marketing on my page for other products and brands I love.
I jokingly quote mean girls when people ask what sets me apart from the thousands of other resellers out there:
“Im not a regular reseller, im a cool reseller” and by that i mean: I understand today’s trends, i dont shame others for NOT buying vintage, and i shop based on style + taste.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
one word: authenticity. When you show up authentically on social media, you will attract like-minded people. I know a lot of creators and businesses try to be relatable instead of authentic. When you’re TRYING to be something, it’s not authentic and it shows.
Besides posting the items I had for sale, I would try to post relevant content that tied in with my business and brand. I always keep in mind my 3 content pillars: 1) sales 2) education 3) personality
1) Sales: these posts would involve the pieces for sale or other products I’m marketing. if you only post item for sale, it becomes monotonous to followers
2) Education: in these posts I would include behind the scenes, cleaning tips, thrifting hauls, etc. Teaching useful tips or sharing behind the scenes of your business adds value to you page besides just sales content
3) Personality: this involves sharing funny stories, memes, and showing you face on stories. These help build a connection with followers and show off the personality + person behind the business.
Focusing on posting a variety of content will definitely help grown your following
Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Yes! As my following as grown, I now am able to have 3 different revenue streams stemming from my Instagram account. Sales from furniture is my primary source of income from my page, but i also earn commission from affiliate links and coaching clients. Using LTK or Shopify Collabs is a great way to earn commission from marketing products + sharing them on your page. Since growing a large following, I have also now started taking on coaching clients to help them learn how to grow on Instagram too.
I am currently working on an ebook/digital course for other resellers looking to learn to grow their following and elevate their content – stay tuned!
