We were lucky to catch up with Marques Wyatt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marques, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to pursue the creative path when something (djing) that started as a hobby, began to open up one opportunity after another. Not to mention, it was the thing I had always been most passionate about. When I started, making a living as a dj wasn’t a thing. So… I was amongst that early wave, who leaped and trusted the net would appear. Gratefully, it did.

Marques, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Basically, I got into the music industry through a series of serendipitous events, that led to me djing clubs and underground parties. Via my djing, I was able to travel the world, as well as the width and breadth of the states. I’ve been inspired by all. Especially, by my beloved Los Angeles. From this inspiration, my “DEEP-LA” brand was birthed, I wanted to provide a platform for local and international dj’s, as well as vocalists to show off their talents, at our house music driven events. This is all in service to our community of music enthusiasts, who find dancing therapeutic and a place to connect with others. Simply put, it’s a family atmosphere. DEEP began in 1998 is still going strong now. Over the years, I’ve relied on my yoga practice and healthy eating to offset the late hours and travel impact. This inspired me to creating a health and wellness branch of the DEEP brand, known as DEEP Exhale in 2013. The timing felt aligned. Thus, my creative partner and world renowned yoga teacher Cristi Christensen and I decided to merge our loves (music yoga & dance). In 2022, I was asked by Apple Music to become part of their “Fitness: Yoga” mix series. This was released in January of 2023.
Lastly, I see music as medicine. Given the state of the world… the need for it is greater than ever. “I will continue to generously spread it in my unique way, via performing in clubs, festivals and producing my own DEEP-LA events. I’ve also recently reentered the studio, so you can expect some new and original productions soon.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
What’s most rewarding about being a creative, is having firstly doing what is I love and the genuine connections it has facilitated throughout. Also, the flexibility to work from home and make my own schedule. This has never held more value to me than now, seeing as my wife Sarah and I have a 10 month old (Naia). Being able to spend such precious time with them has been priceless!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think the fact that me staying busy as DJ, after being in it for over 3 decades and my DEEP-LA brand is still thriving for 25 years, is emblematic of my resilience. This has required remaining open minded musically, braving the ups and downs, as well as navigating the cycles of the scene. Most of all…staying true to my vision. There’s a constant wave of pressure, because social media has provided every critic and naysayer a voice. I’ve found the loudest one should be that of your inner authority. Trust yourself.
