We were lucky to catch up with Angel Torres recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angel, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents are the foundation of my character. In my humble opinion, one’s upbringing can dictate the direction of their life. Luckily for me, I come from a very caring and loving family, and a two parent household. Although overall this can be an advantage, there are always pros and cons, and most individuals will experience some difficulties in their adolescence. I am no exception, but I am a firm believer of looking at the glass half full, rather than half empty. My upbringing was not perfect, but at the end of the day I am convinced my parents always tried their hardest to give me the best life possible, and for that I am eternally grateful. I respect them both for introducing me to discipline, compassion, and hard-work. These values are instilled in me, from there, I have taken direction in my life to become the best person I know how to be. However, I still have a lot to learn, and will continue using my best judgement to progress my growth each and every day. I feel as though it is my responsibility to give them the highest reward for their investments in my future.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Angel Torres, named after my father. For as long as I can remember, I have always had an imaginative personality, which caused me to be creative and think outside of the box. I am of Puerto Rican descent, I can speak both English & Spanish, and I grew up in the United States. As a child, I moved around a lot with my family as they were in search of the best life they could provide us at any given time. I have lived in nearly 10 different cities, and 2 different states all before I graduated high school. I take this as an advantage, as it allows me to blend into nearly any environment, and understand different types of cultures. I am a fast-learner, and have always taken direction well.
After high school, I took it upon myself to move out from my parent’s home, and become an “adult.” It has been an extremely difficult, taxing, and informative journey that I am still on to this day. I knew I was ready to experience life on this level, as I have always been an exceptionally responsible individual who sets their targets high and doesn’t stop until I reach my goals. I attended college, and got my Associate’s Degree thanks to earning a full-ride scholarship from my high school. Furthermore, I knew I always wanted more for myself. I opened my eyes to the world of entrepreneurship, and from there I started my own photography business, juggling 3 jobs, and providing photoshoots on weekends.
From there, I realized I was still capable of achieving more. I understood that we only get one life, and I never desire to sell myself short from my true potential. I am still a professional photographer, and can regularly put a smile on my clients’ faces when they see the images I capture of them. However, I am now focused on building my future in the entertainment industry, as I have come to realize this is where my heart lies. I thoroughly enjoy entertaining others, and being their “escape” from reality which can be difficult for all of us. This is something I have come to learn I am very good at, although I am relatively new to this industry and still have far to go, I am confident in my abilities and the possibility of providing for my family and friends the life they deserve and never had, which drives me to work harder each and every day.
I am “Royale T,” a natural entertainer, & I love providing exceptional, memorable, positive experiences to others.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The main catalyst fueling my journey into the future is providing for my family. I come from a line of hard-working individuals, and I feel as the only son, I am responsible for providing a brighter and more rewarding future for my family. For this reason, I limit myself to the amount of excuses I am able to give, I hold myself accountable to a higher standard of work that needs to be done, and I am constantly pushing myself to the edge of new endeavors & achievements as my goals are everchanging into the next accomplishment. I want to give back to my family as they deserve to experience the best life has to offer; we are all good people with high levels of ethics & a strong moral compass. We are a family that sticks together and looks out for those in need, and propel each other to continue moving forward with our best foot forward each day.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society needs to be willing to change. The best thing our current society can to do help support other artists & creatives thrive in the current creative ecosystem is to truly be willing to change their views and expand the social norms. Today it seems society is very opiniated, and it can sometimes be difficult to persuade others to be open to other ideals. Even if they don’t agree with them, it is important to remember that the idea’s of others do exist, and it may feel inhumane to force your views onto others. However, it is our responsibility as a society to adapt and accept change, as change inevitably breeds growth. We should avoid placing labels of judgements or stereotypes onto others. The freedom that society can grant creative minds once they release their blind preconceptions of others may truly transform the industry into a unique landscape of unequivocal talent in all forms.
