Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chromalogue Studios. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chromalogue Studios, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
Our biggest challenge to profitability came from determining our readiness to charge for our services. The confidence and skills have to reach a certain level of capability before you even begin to charge a fee for your services. After reaching that level, you have to be able to utilize business acumen to appropriately charge for a service and a deliverable while understanding that you have equipment, time, and resource costs to account for in photography/videography. While we had the privilege of utilizing our full-time jobs to offset the initial costs and invest in our equipment, we took a very balanced approach to maximize the utility of our starter cameras to adapt to the different clientele we wanted to target when we were ready to offer our services. As we accumulated revenue, we focused first on driving our equipment costs down to zero, then we were able to focus on scaling our service costs on a variety of factors. Our recommendation in scaling a photography or videography business would definitely be to have an understanding of your point to breakeven. This point will allow you to have a focused monetary goal, which should be feasible, to then allow yourself to quickly move into profitability. Once you have achieved profitability, we would recommend that you focus on scaling and providing high-quality content until at such point you have to implement additional labor, resources, or upgrade equipment.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Of course! We are Chromalogue Studios – a premier photo and video team based in Atlanta! We started in this industry about 7 years ago after graduating college and having a desire to pursue something to challenge ourselves intellectually and creatively outside of our professional careers. We offer a full service photography and videography for weddings and are focused on curating to a clientele who are looking for realism in their wedding photos and videos. We pride ourselves on maintaining a quality of content that is able to adapt to ever-evolving trends if our clients desire, but we also are super transparent on styles we are or are not capable of replicating. We have found success with our clients in capturing their memorable moments with creativity and emotion, while providing them with the highest quality of customer service from before their big days to the delivery day. We believe our customer service really is what sets us apart, as we often get close to our couples and do our utmost best to ensure they are relaxed, happy, and taken well care of during their events. We believe our ability to connect with the couples and even their families is what drives our business forward. If you have a chance to work with Chromalogue Studios, we guarantee you’ll be in for a lot of laughs, good times, and even a few tear-jerking moments.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Though Chromalogue Studios was born 7 years ago, the team was formed 16 years ago! Danish, Wahaj, and Aman are all best friends since their early years of high school. While all three graduated from the same high school, there were differences in where their college journeys took them. Regardless, their friendships only strengthened and culminated in a shared passion to start becoming photographers once they graduated from college. In 7 years of business, these three have shared not only a true desire to progress and develop their photography skills, but their friendships have forged unbreakable bonds as a result of their personal and professional endeavors. They say that good things come in threes, and that could not be further from the truth when it comes to the team at Chromalogue Studios.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As a team, we can collectively agree that the best and most rewarding aspect of being creatives is having an idea in the moment and having our couples execute it to perfection, then watching them be amazed at what we developed in the moment. Between the team, we are able to implement extremely creative ideas using our surroundings and trying untested strategies to create amazing portraits sessions for our couples. While we are sure to always deliver technically sound photos that are tack-sharp and well constructed, we always love to delve into the uncharted territories as each opportunity we get is unique to the couple and the situation.
