We were lucky to catch up with George Broxton recently and have shared our conversation below.
George , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I recall as a kid seeing Grand Master Flash on TV DJing and being thrilled about mixing music. So I experimented with two boomboxes and making mixed tapes to break dance to. I liked the challenge of it and seeing people enjoy the grooves.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I had my first real experience seeing DJing live during my time in the US Army. I started going to clubs and seeing live DJing. I grew up in a small town and did not get to see that much except on TV. I was enthralled by it and I was determined to learn the craft and began renting DJ equipment from a local music store.
My love for DJing comes from sharing songs I love with people and seeing them dance. This is why I love to do it. With that being said, it is work and that’s a common misconception people have about DJs. That, among many reasons, is why DJs charge or want to be paid to perform. We put a lot of work into our craft and a lot of that work is not seen.
One of the main things that sets me apart is my depth of musical knowledge and experience. I have been at this for over 20 years and have DJ’d many types of events and I know music of all types while keeping with the current times. I also do not use cheap equipment. Quality is of the utmost importance.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I recently underwent a lot of life changes. Selling my dream business, moving towns, loss of a relationship and beginning a new career path. During all of this I rediscovered my love of Rave culture as it was alive and well in the new city I moved to. However, I also discovered the technology had greatly evolved and I was very far behind. I had the basics of the craft, but I have had to relearn a lot of new tech and I am still learning more each day.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love seeing people dancing and having a good time. To hear from people at the end of a night “I have danced that much in a long time” or “you make me want to become a DJ” literally melts me heart. Being a DJ to me is an honor. Like people are trusting you to get their feet moving.
