We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nailah Narcisso-Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nailah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
This is such a right on time question, because of the season that I am in right now. I am currently working with an organization that specializes in developing curriculums for school ages kids, within the public school system in Los Angeles, CA, that will help them identify their gifts and talents as well as learning how to make and save money. It has been such an amazing thing to watch. To be a part of a team of people that is seeking to make impact beyond the traditional setting is something that I didn’t think I would enjoy.
In my observations in the past 2 years, there has been so much that i believe is lacking in our public school systems. Alot of our kids are not being prepared or equipped for the constantly changing world that we live in. Our kids are actually smarter than we think and have been exposed to so much, thanks to Social Media. I think that educators and those alike should take a look at what is being shared world-wide and make adjustments to the current curriculum to give our kids more options to be successful. Exposing them to learning different subject matters such as Money Management, Gift Development, Social/ Emotional Intelligence and even how to start a business could be of great benefit to them. I believe if they learn the concepts and skills that are associated with these subjects, it will give them a headstart on their careet development at a younger age.

Nailah , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Graphic and Web Designer, as well as a visual media creative who partners with CEOs, executives and solopreneurs to grow their professional brands, through various platforms and through various graphic design services. After spending over a decade working with local churches facilitating their visual media platforms, I have taken my expertise to a broader network of small and corporate businesses. I know truly what drives product and service conversions by establishing a consistent visual presence through the social media market place. I am fully aware that everyone is in the business of trying to capture the attention of their assigned audience and believes that brand trust will keep that audience engaged.—
I understand that the trust factor begins with the story behind the brand. We cannot get so caught up in trying to sell , that we forget to share why we started in the first place. That is my mission, is to help individuals, small businesses and beyond to establish a strong voice on line. I believe that we are all the Anatomy of Social Media and we have to remember that we bring value to the social market place. Without us, IG, FB, and TikTok are not real.
After being in the creative space for over 15 years, I have pivoted to a place that makes more sense and is less self motivating. I used to want to build a million-dollar company that wanted to have the most clients and received awards for my innovative designs. Now, I’m content with just creating and being available for those that need my expertise. We are all assigned people in life and in business. I just want to do my do diligence to being a help to who I have been ordained to meet.
I hold a BA in Sociology from California State University Northridge ~ Northridge, CA and an AA in Visual Communication Arts from Pasadena City College~ Pasadena, California
In 2018, I had the opportunity to work as a contractor with Southern California Edison, a major International Energy Company, based out of Southern California; as an Instructional Designer for the Enterprise and Learning Department.
I am currently a member of the Art Directors Guild of the Motion Picture Industry as a STG-Graphic Designer https://adg.org/directory/16190-nailah-narcisso-jones/
My immediate and future goal is to bundle my knowledge and skills and share them with the next generation. I am planning on launching my first curriculum that will focus on Social Media Intelligence :From Bullying to Business.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew how to manage a business correctly, when I started in my 20’s. I was so excited about being an entrepreneur that I wasn’t quite sure all that it involved. There’s a certain level of responsibility that you must have to manage a company of any size. One of the things that I didn’t take advantage of early on is having a mentor. I took for granted the benefit of having some one train me in the areas that I wanted to be successful in. My problem was that I thought my talent was enough. I also was not a good listener. I thought I knew more than I did. Having that kind of mindset can delay you and you can live in unnecessary delusion.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I know that my pricing and me going over and beyond gave me a virtual award for good customer service. That was in my mind of course…lol . Even though I would set my policies up a certain way when it came to servicing my customers, I still would go over and beyond for them. Sometimes God would lead me not to charge a certain client the full price or not to charge at all. It didn’t happen often but I would accommodate as I was led to do. I know that my spirit of giving in certain instances opened more doors for me and increased my clientele from spaces that were unexpected.
