We recently connected with Khadija Morris and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Khadija, thanks for joining us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?

One of my first jobs was at a male group home for people dealing with developmental  disabilities. The home held three males. One man believed he was an undercover cop. One  man called himself the “baddest” and believed he was a replica of the rapper Trina. The last  gentleman was older and didn’t know why he was there living with “crazy asses.” 

At that point in my life, I agreed with the older gentleman. I did not know why I was there. I  didn’t understand how I ended up working in a home after getting a glorified college  degree. I had limited knowledge of how to help these men. Most importantly, I didn’t  understand who they were. This job was a reality check. 

I spent the next ten years in this field, working with amazing people. I learned people  dealing with developmental disabilities are the most amazing, humorous, caring people on  this earth. I realized the true meaning of person-centered care and how to improve the  quality of life, with no limitations. 

Looking back, my first job granted me the opportunity to understand underrepresented  communities. I developed ways to care for people who needed representation. 

As I transition careers from social services to real estate, I continue to carry the same ethics  and representation for all people. This is an amazing feeling because I know I’m already  making a change in real estate.

Khadija, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Of course! My name is Khadija Morris, self-proclaimed as The Living Liberator. I am an  Assistant Team Leader with an incredible Mental Health team in Tampa, Florida. I am also a  new REALTOR in the state of Florida. 

My passion for helping people started at a young age when I saw the need in my home and  neighborhood. As I grew older, I learned to use my passion as a lifelong dream. 

After several years in the social service field, I realized the need to expand my passion. Not  only did I want to increase my financial status, but I also wanted to pursue something  different from social services. 

In 2023, I obtained my real estate license and joined one of the largest growing brokerages  in the country. The name of my business is Mor Rich Realty. My business is dedicated to  helping people achieve happiness through real estate.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?

If I could go back, I would ABSOLUTELY choose the same profession and specialty. My  experience working with all types of people has molded me into an incredible person. Not  only do I help underrepresented populations daily, but I am also able to help people  achieve a better quality of life. My inner child is happy with the path I’ve taken. 

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?

As a real estate agent and a therapist, I cannot emphasize the importance of person centered care enough! Person-centered care and focusing on the client’s needs are  extremely important in all service fields. 

This means listening to the client’s needs. It means creating a goal plan that meets the  client’s needs. Person-centered care means being the best support system for the client. 

With person-centered care, the client will be satisfied with their investments, because the  client was supported on THEIR best decision.
