We were lucky to catch up with Kalenga Juma recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Kalenga thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?

My podcast’s idea came from a series of moments and a strong interest in exploring the difficulties and the enjoyment of human life. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the power of storytelling and how it can shape our perceptions of the world around us. As I navigated through life, I was drawn to deep discussions about the positive and negative connotations of different communities, the transformative moments that shape our lives, and the stories of individuals who have made a significant impact.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My journey began eight years ago, a journey that would forever change my life. I made the courageous decision to leave behind the familiar and challenging life of Tanzania in East Africa, and embark on a new adventure in the United States.

Despite facing numerous challenges, I endured and adapted to a new culture, language, and the American way of life. My journey is a power of determination and following one’s dreams. From Tanzania to the United States, I have overcome obstacles and embraced opportunities, all while staying true to my passions.

I’m Kalenga Juma or known as Kj of The Player’s Ambition podcast. The Player’s Ambition is English and Kiswahili (a language most spoken in East Africa) a chat podcast where I get to sit down to discuss with my interviewee (player’s in this case) exclusively about life, impacts they have caused in their communities, life lesson they have educated themselves, love lives, I consider my interviewee players because their lives are almost like a team and they are the teams’ main/leading players.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?

I wish I knew more about investing in a good-quality microphone to capture clear and strong audio, creating a quiet and controlled recording environment to minimize background noise and distractions, and familiarizing myself with audio and video editing software, such as Adobe Audition, captions, Capcut, Premiere Pro, and Davinci, to edit my podcast episodes, plus the work of light or how to set up a light properly. Establish a consistent publishing schedule to engage my audience and attract new listeners. Stick to a regular release schedule, whether weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

Podcasting is a journey that often leads to success through time, dedication, and a genuine passion for your content. However, the true power of podcasting lies in the strength of your team. As a founder, host, and creative force behind the Player’s Ambition podcast, I am fortunate to have a significant cofounder and a business partner, Heritier and Kevin Clone. Their contributions and support are invaluable, and I am inspired and motivated by our collective efforts.

With over 15 years of friendship, my cofounder Heritier adds depth and perspective to the podcast. He pushes and encourages me to bring what’s important to the podcast and shares unique insights that we always try to incorporate into our existing plans.

Clone, a skilled photographer, videographer, and business owner, supports my vision with his skills and knowledge, enhancing the podcast’s production quality and visual appeal. Clone’s talent for editing, brainstorming ideas, and strategic planning elevates the podcast, ensuring it reaches its full potential.
