We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diana Belle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diana below.
Diana , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In the beginning of 2016 I found out I was pregnant and took a risk to leave my stable job in aerospace to become a stay at home mom. During those months I found myself getting creative with friends and family gatherings and by 2017 I established Knots & Belles.
I started this business for fun because I used to believe wedding planning was fun little did I know it would become my entire life.
Somehow my little side business started to pick up and I was pulling 50-60 weddings in a year. I was happily living a dream I didn’t know was possible. Things were going great!
Enter 2020 when the entire world paused, so did my business.
2020 gave me something I’m forever grateful for. It gave me time with my family and a new perspective. I found a balance by taking on less weddings but building better packages for our couples and bundling more services. We now offer florals, decorations and stationary design. It’s been so much fun.
I feel blessed and lucky to call this my career!
Diana , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are a wedding planning company helping all couples with small or bigger budgets have the wedding of their dreams.
We guide our couples from the moment they book with all their contracts, all their designs, walk them through questions and meetings they have and ensure a smooth wedding planning process for them. Wether it’s a small micro wedding, an elopement or a huge wedding we are at their side ensuring vendors are being booked and they’re sticking to their budget!
We help put out little fires and we’re most proud of our ability to improvise during a time of need and be able to set plan b in motion if needed.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2020 we were devastated when the entire world came to a halt. Unsure of our future and what was going to happen . All of our events slowly started cancelling. it was a scary moment and depressing.
2020 was going to be one of my busiest years with some of the biggest weddings I had booked and planned.
Unfortunately not many went through and I had to find a new way to support myself and my family.
That’s when I found my love for plants and somehow started doing little
Pop ups and selling pottery for
Plants. It became such an incredible side business I was able to open up a small consignment shop!
It was such a fun journey, we carried a ton of homemade and small business items,. We also hosted book club meetings, and plant potting workshops for holidays.
It helped me in so many ways but slowly weddings started returning and there wasn’t enough time to keep the store running and also keeping my business going. So after a year, the business just down and weddings have been back in full swing.
But nevertheless, it was an amazing experience!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
We have some of the best clients and they have kept us in business by sending us so many referrals!
I always say a tip is great but a referral is better!
So I hope our happy ever after couples can continue sending us all the newly engaged!
