We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Meagan Underwood a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Meagan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was inspired to develop this brand due to my personal struggles with my skin and lack of self-care. In 2020, I battled with acne and oily skin for months, feeling frustrated as none of the products I tried seemed to make a difference.
Determined to find a solution, I began experimenting with ingredients right in my kitchen, ultimately crafting my own soaps. It was during this time that I felt a divine inspiration to establish a skincare brand aimed at helping others with acne. In 2021, MC Beauty Brand was born.
As the brand evolved, God took me on a profound healing journey. It became clear that many of my skin problems were rooted in internal factors. Stress, overwhelming emotions, anxiety, and burnout had all taken their toll. Balancing roles as a wife, mother, professional, and business owner had led me to believe that constant busyness was normal. My self-worth and identity had become entwined with my work and the pace of life I maintained.
However, as my healing journey unfolded, I began to understand the true significance of self-care and the art of resting. I started incorporating practices such as affirmations, journaling, and setting healthy boundaries. It was through this process that I had a profound realization—I was enough, regardless of my achievements or how busy I was. This revelation sparked a complete transformation in my overall well-being.
My purpose now is clear: I am on a mission to empower and equip women to embark on their own journey to self-care. I believe that by nurturing themselves, they can achieve balance, happiness, and a sense of wholeness. MC Beauty Brand is not just about external beauty; it’s about nurturing the soul and helping others recognize their worth.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey there, I’m Meagan Underwood, from San Diego, California. My days are a whirlwind of cheering on my 12-year-old son at his sports events, and we’re often on the road for his competitions. Alongside being a dedicated sports mom, I’ve been happily married for 12 years. My academic journey led me to Fresno State, where I earned a degree in Mass Communications/Advertising, followed by a Master’s in Business Administration.
In my professional career in corporate healthcare recruiting, I’ve always been driven and focused. Yet, amidst the hustle, I encountered personal battles with my skin and a lack of self-care. The tipping point hit during the COVID pandemic when my skin broke out terribly, despite trying numerous remedies. Feeling overwhelmed by the array of skincare options, I knew I needed a change.
Fueled by my own frustrations, I delved into researching ingredients and skincare, documenting my journey along the way. Through this process, I learned two vital lessons: the significance of a consistent skincare routine and the necessity of prioritizing self-care. Initially foreign to me, self-care was something I associated with taking time away from progress. But as a mother, wife, and career woman, I couldn’t ignore the toll neglecting my well-being took on my skin and stress levels.
Documenting every aspect, from daily feelings to skincare changes, I discovered a direct correlation between stress and skin issues. Something had to give. Intentionality transformed my self-care routine into a catalyst for change, not only improving my skin but also boosting my confidence. Inspired by my journey, I envisioned creating a brand that would empower women to embark on their self-care journey.
As women, we’re grappling with stress and anxiety like never before. The weight of numerous responsibilities is pushing stress levels to new heights, leading to burnout. Studies affirm what many of us feel – over half of women are experiencing heightened stress levels, and many are forced to take time off work to manage their mental health. The gender gap in anxiety diagnoses underscores the urgency for effective solutions.
Enter MC Beauty Brand, offering a beacon of hope in the realm of self-care. Our mission? To empower women on their journey to self-love, self-care, and wellness. Through a holistic approach, we provide not just products but also resources and a supportive community.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
MC Beauty Brand its not just about what you see on the shelves. It’s woven from my own life’s challenges, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the journey.
COVID hit us all hard, didn’t it? For me, it felt like one loss after another. Seven years of hoping for another child ended in heartache with a miscarriage. Then, I lost my older brother and a dear friend, all within three months. The weight of it all was crushing. And you know what? Stress doesn’t just stay in your mind; it can seep into your skin. My face was a canvas of breakouts, and with each new blemish, it felt like I was losing a piece of myself.
But amidst the storm of 2020, there was a silver lining. I found solace in my faith, rediscovering a connection with Jesus that I hadn’t felt in years. And you won’t believe where my healing journey began—my skin.
I battled severe acne and hyperpigmentation, trying every product under the sun. Nothing seemed to work. But I wasn’t about to let it define me. So, I rolled up my sleeves and dove headfirst into research. I started experimenting with homemade soaps and studying skincare ingredients like it was my new calling. And you know what? Maybe it was.
In the quiet moments of prayer, a crazy idea took root—why not create my own skincare line? I mean, who was I to think I could help others when I was still figuring out how to heal my own skin? But I couldn’t shake the feeling that this was a calling, a nudge from a higher power. So, despite the doubts and fears, I took a leap of faith. And a year later, after countless trials and errors, MC Beauty Brand was born.
But you know, it wasn’t just about the products. Through it all, I learned something profound—the importance of consistency and self-care, from the inside out.
As the brand grew, so did my understanding of myself. I realized that many of my skin issues were rooted in deeper internal struggles—stress, anxiety, burnout. I had been juggling so many roles—wife, mother, professional, business owner—that I forgot to prioritize myself. But as I embarked on my healing journey, I discovered the true power of self-care—the affirmations, the journaling, the setting of healthy boundaries.
And you know what the most amazing part was? Through it all, I came to a realization—I was enough, just as I was, regardless of my achievements or how busy I was. That shift in perspective sparked a transformation in my confidence and overall well-being that I never thought possible.
Now, my purpose is crystal clear: to empower women to embark on their own journey to self-care. Because I truly believe that by nurturing ourselves, we can find balance, happiness, and a sense of wholeness. MC Beauty Brand isn’t just about looking good on the outside; it’s about nourishing the soul and helping others recognize their inherent worth.
This brand, MC Beauty, it’s a reflection of my journey—the battles with low self-esteem, the struggles with my skin. But you know what? In the darkest moments, I found a flicker of light. Instead of letting my challenges break me, I used them as fuel for change.
And at the heart of it all is, FAITH—in the belief that even in our darkest moments, all things work together for the good. It’s a message I want to share with the world—that no matter what you face, it has the power to shape you into something better, something stronger.
So, yes, my journey with MC Beauty isn’t just about skincare. It’s about resilience, about transformation. And it’s my hope that through sharing my story, I can inspire others to embrace their own path to self-love, self-care and fulfillment.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When I first started, the thought of sharing my journey scared me. I hesitated to reveal my path to healing my skin. I believed I should only unveil the end result, when my skin was clear and flawless. But then, I realized that people crave authenticity, not just perfection. They want to see the raw, the struggle, the highs and lows.
I remember posting my first video on TikTok and Instagram, eagerly awaiting likes and support, only to be met with silence. It was crushing and humiliating. I withdrew for a while, feeling discouraged by the lack of response. But then it hit me – my journey could make a difference to someone out there.
So, despite the setbacks, I recommitted to sharing. I documented every step of my skin journey, along with the lessons I learned about self-care, confidence, and healing. I expanded my platform, launching a YouTube channel and a podcast. I was determined to share my story, knowing deep down that someone needed to hear it.
I nurtured my social media audience by opening up about my personal journey. I knew there were other women out there facing similar struggles, so I shared my story with honesty and transparency. As my brand grew, and I continued to learn and evolve, I shared those experiences with my audience, hoping to offer them insights they could apply in their own lives.
My approach has always been about fostering a sense of community. I wanted to create a space where we could all learn and grow together. That’s my advice for anyone starting out: focus on building a community first. It’s not just about selling products; that will come naturally as your community grows to know, like, and trust you.
The key is to provide value. Share tips, resources, and insights related to your brand that genuinely help and engage your audience. By consistently adding value, you’ll attract and retain followers who see you as more than just a brand—they see you as a trusted source of inspiration and knowledge.
