We were lucky to catch up with Kelvon David recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kelvon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
April 13 2020 I dropped my first album after changing my name after the new year came in January 1st , 2020 I was no long TNW KR but now ihatekr. The meaning behind the change around that time I was going through an identity crisis , I didn’t know what I wanted to do or who I wanted to be or even if I wanted to be something. As I experienced life more my goals and aspirations started getting more clear as the time went by. I was just 19 stuck at Walmart pushing carts on the brink of questioning , was what I want even real and stressing the what if’s and have not’s with out taking in the I have and I did. I started writing my album February all the way till my birthday were I still ended up changing and scrapping songs and just starting to experiment with my own thoughts and words. Who Is KR ? Would be the name of that first album and a staple point of my career in my eyes cause I finally made something I could look back on and remember all the memories that went into making it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started freestyle rapping early 3rd grade , one of my teachers made us do poetry one day and I didn’t want to but it ended up sticking with me plus my father played a lot of music from his era. At first I didn’t really know what to say or speak about so it was random Melodie’s and lyrics that just sounded good together. As I got older my lyrics and songs aged as well with every passing of the years. I want the people to know that you can do anything you put your self to , a strong mind and determination will take you further than any payment can in the long run just stay focus and never give up it’s okay to take breaks.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing for myself being a music artist is the feeling of getting to know my supporters and the thoughts they have towards certain projects and singles. Knowing I might of impacted someone’s thoughts about something let’s me know I’m doing it right and keeping songs true to myself allowing the listener to understand my head space with the music.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Life’s rollercoaster is a wild ride that comes with loops , turns , breaks and unknown stops. Doing the same thing over and over again hoping for change is the true definition of “insanity” and that’s exactly what the feeling of the one point of my career I was going through . I had to learn how to switch things up and be different while also staying me. I didn’t know what I wanted to do or how I wanted to do the things needed to take the change for the better. Being backed into a corner in my own head I only had options to quit or keep going forward with a good support system anything can be possible.
