We recently connected with Rashad and Patrice Armstrong and have shared our conversation below.
Rashad and Patrice , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
Our journey kicked off with WIPA Nashville as our inaugural client, marking a significant milestone in our story. Patrice Armstrong, one of our co-owners and a respected figure in the local wedding planning scene, took charge of organizing WIPA’s quarterly event. With less than a month to prepare, the pressure was on to deliver something fresh and memorable for the industry.
Patrice scoured the internet for inspiration, and after much searching, she landed on the idea of a magazine-inspired photo booth. With Rashad, her husband and co-owner, they set out to make this vision a reality. Rashad dedicated countless hours to building the Nashville Magazine Photo Booth, pouring his expertise and passion into every detail.
When the day of the event arrived, anticipation filled the air as guests eagerly awaited the unveiling of the booth. Its interactive features and unique concept wowed attendees, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.
Months later, the buzz surrounding the event still lingers, with people continuing to talk about the unforgettable experience of the Nashville Magazine Photo Booth. WIPA Nashville will always hold a special place in our hearts for being the catalyst that launched our journey
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are husband and wife team that have been involved in the creative arts for many years. We both went to performing our high schools, met in the communications department at Tennessee State University, and have been connected to media and events on and off since college.
Patrice has been planning weddings in Nashville for the past six years during that time she joined WIPA and was asked to coordinate a quarterly meeting. She was looking for something that would really WOW the crowd and stumbled upon the magazine photo booth concept.
We have been most proud of bringing a new source of wholesome fun to events. The Magazine Photobooth has been enjoyed by the young and old, corporate teams and a very diverse set of personalities. They thing they all have in common is the joy from feeling like a Hollywood star and being able to share the moment with other through photos.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
We will let Patrice Take this!
Transitioning from a casting producer for TV and film in LA to my current role as a full-time wedding planner in Nashville has been an unexpected yet transformative journey. After relocating back to Nashville to be closer to family, I found myself longing for the fast-paced world of television and film. I eventually settled for a full-time job in the medical field, although unhappily, as it lacked the creative spark I craved.
However, fate intervened when my friends asked me to plan their wedding. It was a revelation – orchestrating a wedding felt like directing a production of love. Recognizing my passion, I delved into wedding coordination part-time, finding immense joy in crafting unforgettable moments for couples.
Then, the unexpected struck with the onset of the Covid-19 , resulting in the loss of my medical job. It was a pivotal moment, pushing me to take a leap of faith and commit fully to wedding planning. What initially seemed like a storm of uncertainty soon became my testament of resilience and determination.
Embracing this newfound path, I discovered opportunities I never imagined, walking through doors previously unseen. Not only has it allowed me to pursue my passion wholeheartedly, but it has also granted me the flexibility to prioritize family and travel. It’s within this journey that Nashville Magazine Photobooth was born, a testament to the transformative power of following one’s passion and seizing opportunities amidst adversity.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
Yes we build all of our Magazine Photobooth’s in house. After researching, we were confident we could create the Photobooth. Ultimately it has worked out, but It was far from a straightforward process.
There were many challenges as we worked through engineering a box that would be lightweight, portable, sturdy, and aesthetically pleasing. With support from friends and lots of caffeine our idea became a reality in about 3 1/2 weeks.
Since the original box we have added a few enhancements to the main box construction. Additionally, we started offering a convenient design service to further personalize the booth for busy clients needing a little spark to bring their visions to life.
