We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Matilde Wergeland. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Matilde below.
Matilde , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
As a Holistic Health Expert and someone who meets clients all the time and in different settings – whether it be in my one-on-one hypnosis sessions, reiki educations, Pilates classes, or in my DM on Instagram, I always want to encourage people to turn within, try to connect with their intuition, and listen to their own mind and body. There are so many amazing things and practices within wellness and spirituality that we can use, and there are lots of inspiring and educated practitioners that can help us, but we all have so much intuitive knowledge within ourselves. Therefore, we should use all these practices, things, and education as tools to help us turn within. You are your own guru. What works for me might not work for you, and vice versa. We are all so unique and the key to optimal health (mentally, physically, and spiritually) is to listen within. What is your body telling you? Is your mind trying to send you a message? Are you able to actually hear and listen to the whispers? Are you ignoring the screams? If we just pause and take a moment to connect and reflect, we can find so much information and guidance within us that can help us take steps in the right directions towards a healthier and better life.
However, in today’s busy society with social media, colleagues, friends, and other people around us, as well as work, routines, and a long to-do list, it can be really hard to take the time and go within, even though we know we should and it’s actually a very easy task. So, my best tips to actually turin within and benefit from our intuition and inner knowledge is of course meditation and hypnosis. Those tools are amazing when it comes to self-development and getting to know ourselves. Hypnosis has really changed my life, and I constantly get amazed of its power to change our lives to the better. In addition, another tip in addition to these two practices is to follow our heart. Letting passion, inspiration, love, and excitement to guide us in our decisions and things we do in life is a very easy way to let our true and inner compass guide us. Paying attention to what lights us up is a great way and practice to letting our soul guide us, rather than anything external.
The client’s that have followed this advice have found life becoming easier in many ways as they simply get to know themselves better. They are able to take better care of their mental and physical health, and they find it easier to make decisions as they better know what they want and like in life. They have also reported that it’s easier to find those moments of reflection and to take a break when needed in life.
Matilde , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Matilde Wergeland and I am incredibly passionate about everything wellness. I was born on Sweden’s west coast, but my family is half Norwegian, and I have lived in London, Paris, Sydney, and in New York for many years. My dream is to live in New York and on Sweden’s west coast over the summer, get a dachshund, write a book, and just continue to live a healthy life where I get to do my wellness routines and practices all day, every day.
Over the years and as I have experienced challenged and really tough times, health and wellness have really saved me and not just helped to improve my physical health, but most of all my mental health. A few years ago, I went through a burn out and got out of a very toxic and abusive relationship that really took a toll on my mental health. During my recovery, I started out with gentle yoga, a few minutes of meditation, I started to read lots of books within self-development and spirituality, and I started to prioritize extra healthy and nourishing foods every day. I was eventually able to add on even more physical movement, such as boxing classes and Pilates, and after a few months, I felt that both my physical and mental health started to get better. I gained self-confidence, I practiced self-love, and I got to know myself better. I improved my physical and mental strength, and finally got back on track after a few months, but it was all thanks to my different practices and tools within health and wellness.
Since then, I have had to overcome several other hardships in life, but I’ve learned that the tools, practices, and knowledge that I have are what can take me through it all. I am so thankful for that, and it’s the reason why I am so passionate about holistic health, because I know what a difference it makes in life. Having the tools and knowledge to take care of ourselves mentally, spiritually, and physically is key in order to live a happy life. And since I love and have benefited a lot from different types of areas within wellness, I am also offering a wide range of services to my clients. I am a certified Holistic Health Coach, as well as a Hypnotist Coach, and I love to help my clients get rid of everything from phobias and addictions, to implement new habits and reaching goals through hypnosis. I am also a yoga, meditation, and Pilates teacher, and love to teach classes. I have always loved to exercise and have been a very active person as a kid, running marathons, playing soccer, and love how physical movement does wonder for my mental health as well.
Moreover, reiki – the ancient energy healing from Japan – also got me hooked immediately, and I am today a Reiki Grand Master, educating others to learn this amazing practice. I have experienced such incredible results from it – e.g. it makes me to calm down when I am stressed, it gives me an energy boost when needed, and helps me connect better with my intuition. Reiki is truly magical, and I am so excited to spread the knowledge about it to many others.
And the ways I share my services and knowledge with others is through my company HEALTH BY M, website healthbym.com, as well as my membership platform The Retreat, where you get access to meditation-, yoga-, and Pilates classes, journaling prompts, healthy recipes, manifestation practices, rituals, hypnosis audios, routines, and much more as a member. The purpose of the platform is to help you create your own routines and retreats so that you can easily fill your everyday life with the practices and tools that make you feel great. I also have a podcast, called HEALTH BY M the podcast, where I talk about anything health related. I offer private hypnosis sessions, and a life-changing hypnosis program is coming very soon, that I can’t wait to share as I really hope it will be able to help people change their lives, reach goals, and find more gratitude in their lives. In addition, I also work as a writer and am writing articles within traveling and wellness for publications like Hip & Healthy and Vogue Scandinavia. I love to write and photograph, and to combine wellness with traveling. I also share a lot of tips and inspiration on my Instagram @healthbym and @matildew.
The things I am able to do are what I am mostly passionate about in life, and it gives me so much joy every day. How I got here on this path is that I have followed my heart a lot, and I have always had a very strong feeling of what I like and want in life. It’s been so strong that I haven’t been able to push it away at times, so there hasn’t really been any choice but following my heart and passion. However, it has also been hard at times to navigate it all, and I am currently in a big transformation with many choices to make, which honestly feels a bit overwhelming. What I am trying to do in this moment though, is to take a moment to reflect and connect with my intuition, and let my inner compass guide me, rather than any external factors. I am also developing a type of hypnosis program, which I hope will help me (and eventually many others) to find clarity in life, reach goals, and change it for the better.
What I am proud of when it comes to my career is that I have dared to go my own way. I have followed my heart and I have also dedicated a lot of time and effort into educating myself about all the things I am doing. I think knowledge is very important and education has always been something I have loved and believe is key. I don’t share these things because it might be a current trend – I genuinely have such a strong passion for it all, and I believe quality is key so it’s very important to me to educate myself first and share things that actually work for me. Then of course, we are all different and what works for me might not work for you. But authenticity and education are both really important, and I hope people notice that in my work. I also believe and hope it is what makes me stand out from others, that I have put a lot of time and effort into getting extensive knowledge from studying, as well as my own life experiences. Whether it is Pilates, hypnosis, or reiki, I have studied it, tested it, and practiced it for a long time before sharing it, as I think that is key in order to build trust among my clients. I never want to retire from this job and I see myself as a student for life. I almost feel that the more I learn, the less I know. I will continue to educate myself as long as I live, and all I want is just to be able to continue to do these practices for the rest of my life – to help both myself and others live better and healthier lives. That is what drives me – not necessarily money, fame, praise, or similar. If I for the rest of my life just get to wake up in the morning, have my green juice and matcha, do my Pilates and hypnosis routines, read books about self-development and spirituality, prioritize self-care, inspire others to live healthier, and to be creative in my work, I’d be the happiest person ever.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think I have always been very true to myself and only shared things that I genuinely want to recommend because of my passion for and knowledge of it. And I think that shows, if someone is so excited, almost nerdy, about something, people can feel that energy and that helps to establish trust and authenticity. People know that you know what you’re talking about and that the intention behind it comes from a place of genuine love. I believe that my clients and the people that follow me can feel my passion, and that the things I share are what I live and breathe for. I have zero poker face, which I think is an advantage in this aspect as you can easily tell my feelings and intentions.
So, a general tip I want to share regarding this is to do something you love, because that will make you want to learn everything about it, and you will be able to succeed within that field because passion and knowledge are what will create that inspiring, trustworthy, and authentic energy around it, and that is what people buy. People don’t necessarily buy what we do, but WHY we do it – how it makes us feel and how it has changed our life.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up, I often heard things like a “job is hard and boring”, “we have to work hard and really fight for what we want in life”, and “money is not easy to earn”, and I have noticed how those beliefs stuck with me for a long time. However, I have realized that those statements aren’t true, as time has gone by and as I have learned about hypnosis. Both in school and in my professional life, I have experienced how a job can be fun, how money actually can come easily to us, and that things that are meant for us can come without us having to fight and force. We all have different programs that run our minds, and hence run our lives, so paying attention to those and reflecting on whether they benefit us or not in life, and then possibly reprogram them through hypnosis, are key.
Being able to unlearn these beliefs have helped me to release stress in life and have more fun. Realising that a job not only could, but SHOULD be fun has helped me so much in my professional life, and it has allowed me to follow my heart more. Also, working on opening up to receive things and opportunities, rather than forcing things to happen is also something that has released so much stress and saved me a lot of energy and effort. Whether it is a job, relationship, home, or other goal we want to achieve, it’s so freeing to remind ourselves that everything is not entirely up to us, and if it’s meant to be it will come, if it’s not, nothing can force it to happen.
