We recently connected with Josh Hailey and have shared our conversation below.
Josh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I think all creatives ponder what the other half of their lives would be if they had a regular job. And vice versa. There are times that I doubt myself and Think about how my life would be if I had a 9 to 5 then that’s just a little bouts of depression and then I realize how beautiful my life is and what I’ve made for myself with being my own boss and doing the yard and photography I love. It’s also nice to actually do two things as a business. Because you’re gonna end up hating one sometimes and then you can rely on the other one. But no I don’t wanna 9-to-5, I love my 3 AM till 10 AM or whatever I choose it to be

Josh, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is josh hailey and I am an artist/Photographer and I guess I like to describe myself as a mixed media artist. I’m originally from Mississippi and FolkArt is something that really inspires me so I guess in the modern terms I am a mixed media folk artist collage manic person. I love what I do and I put myself out there living my life every day on my Instagram and I just get to wear whatever had I want to wear and have fun with it. I try to live my life and spread joy and everything that I do.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I was called to do this so it’s weird to try to overthink it but sometimes I get a step back and people tell me how they have been inspired by some thing I’ve done and I guess just hearing that sometimes and doing things differently than others is super rewarding. I like inspiring people to get creative
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I mean I’m still here right? 20 years ago when I started my business I didn’t think too much about it and just started paying rent on a gallery space and that who is my first resilient thing to just keep doing my art and photography. When I’ve gotten down I literally throw myself into something on I’m uncomfortable with. I did a two year documentary 12 years ago and just Took myself away from where I was got out there too tell stories and make more art and I just keep doing that same thing over and over again. Art, photography, travel are the things that make me May and the most resilient
