Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Loreyale Jazmin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Loreyale, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I love being a creative! I don’t think there is a such thing as a “regular job” per se but a lot of people have mentioned to me more conventional careers that I might excel in. I feel like I’d be doing myself a disservice if I chose a career based on capitalist principles.
I love making music and I’m really grateful to be in a position to do it for a living!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Loreyale Jazmin, a singer, DJ, pianist and all around music maker from New Orleans, Louisiana! I started making music at a young age. I was raised around music, my mom is also a singer and bandleader.
What sets me apart as a musician is my wide range of music tastes! I like fusion and making music that hasn’t been done before.
I’ve just recently appeared in a music video titled It’s A Blessing! by Joy Orleans. I’m so proud of how it turned out! Stay tuned on my social media for the release!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
As a society, we should be providing for all marginalized groups but I think specifically for artists and creatives we should create programs that ensure that we don’t have to choose between art and making a living. Art is what makes life worth living but too often artist have to prioritize making a living.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Unions or similar organizations for independent creators are a great way for artists to thrive. There are so many organizations that work to protect and lift up independent creatives!
